Your Internship Experience
At Northwestern Mutual – Greater Orlando, we believe the only way for students to have a successful internship is by experiencing hands-on training and mentoring as well as developing relationships with our advisors.
College financial representatives attend client meetings with senior financial representatives, so you can begin learning the roadmap to financial planning. You will also see different ways that financial advisors run their meetings and build relationship with their clients.
As part of your internship, you will:
· Receive financial planning training centered on growing your knowledge
· Develop your skills in networking and business relationships
· Be mentored and coached by our designated College Unit Captains and College Unit Directors
· Participate in speaker series, book clubs and learning opportunities
· Join in company outings and community service initiatives
College Financial Representative Role Description
As a Northwestern Mutual College Financial Representative, you will get the opportunity to learn and master Northwestern Mutual’s personalized planning process to provide financial solutions tailored to each client’s needs through his or her lifetime. You’ll be part of the firm team, working side-by-side with full-time financial representatives, advisors, and professional office staff. You’ll see the independent and entrepreneurial spirit that our financial representatives and advisors share, and follow the same process they do for test-driving your career in financial services. Specifically, College Financial Reps perform the same duties as full-time representatives:
· Client acquisition
· Client case studies
· Create and analyze personal needs analysis for clients
· Recommend solutions to help clients achieve financial security
· Provide on-going service to clients
· Training and coaching from the best in the business through an award-winning training program
· Team meetings to set and track goals
· Complete state required licensing
Training & Development
Training
- Phase 1: Obtain state required Life and Health licensing (sponsored and reimbursed by Northwestern Mutual), learn language, and develop a marketing plan.
- Phase 2: 5 days of formal classroom-style training facilitated by the leadership team and former College Reps where you will learn the steps of the Northwestern Mutual financial planning process and understand basic product knowledge.
- Phase 3: Weekly development meetings with your peers and leadership team to reinforce formal training concepts, improve case consultation skills, integrate with full-time financial representatives and advisors, and learn more about Northwestern Mutual.
Development

· Opportunity for advanced licensing and designations (SIE, Series 6 and 63 / CLU, ChFC, CFP Designations)
Social
Building professional relationships is an important component of Northwestern Mutual’s internship program. Internship events are held throughout the semester and summer to bring together College Financial Representatives, the leadership team, and full-time financial representatives.

Required Skill Set
Our year-round internship has classes starting in May, August, and January.
We are currently considering Juniors and Seniors or students who have less than 18 months until graduation. Though it is not necessary, it is beneficial for candidates to have previous work or internship experience. We are looking for individuals who possess the following characteristics:

· Previous work or internship experience
· Self-motivated, driven, goal-oriented
· Solid communication skills
· Desire to help others
· U.S. Citizen or permanent work authorization
