Law Clerk Intern
Humane World for Animals, a global leader in animal advocacy and protection, is seeking two Law Clerk Interns for the Office of General Counsel. The Law Clerk Intern position provides aspiring legal professionals with hands-on experience supporting a corporate legal department. Interns will contribute to legal research, contract review, policy and compliance projects, litigation and risk management matters, and other initiatives that support the organization's legal operations. This role is designed to strengthen legal analysis, critical thinking, and communication skills while offering insight into the organization’s legal priorities, advocacy campaigns, and mission-driven work. Interns will also gain valuable practice in time management, organization, and the ability to effectively prioritize in a dynamic legal setting.
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with attorneys in the Office of General Counsel on a variety of legal matters, including contracts, compliance, litigation, corporate governance, risk management, and legal operations initiatives;
• Review and analyze legal documents, contracts, policies, correspondence, pleadings, regulatory materials, and other records to identify key legal issues, assess risks, and support attorney decision-making;
• Conduct legal research and prepare summaries, memoranda, and other written work product on a wide range of legal topics relevant to the organization’s operations and mission;
• Assist with litigation and dispute management by organizing case files, reviewing documents, supporting discovery efforts, tracking deadlines, and coordinating with internal stakeholders and outside counsel as needed;
• Support compliance, governance, and audit-related initiatives by gathering information, reviewing documentation, responding to internal inquiries, and helping maintain legal records and processes.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Must be a 2L or 3L law student working toward a Juris Doctor degree;
• Must be able to learn and follow guidelines and policies of Humane World for Animals and Office of General Counsel’s Team, and follow directions given by staff;
• Must submit the required paperwork and pass a background check before being assigned;
• Demonstrated interest in the practice of law, legal research, and supporting the work of an in-house legal department;
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including exceptional legal research, writing, analytical, and critical-thinking abilities;
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy;
• Ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects and priorities while demonstrating a strong work ethic and accountability;
• Flexibility, adaptability, and eagerness to learn while contributing to a variety of legal matters and projects;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), legal research platforms, and online research tools;
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential and sensitive information;
• Ability to maintain professionalism in attitude, communication, and appearance;
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and develop practical, solution-oriented recommendations;
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment;
• Coursework or experience in areas such as contracts, corporate law, litigation, compliance, employment law, nonprofit law, intellectual property, administrative law, or related legal disciplines is preferred.
This is a remote internship.
