Distribution Line Designer

Job Title: Distribution Line Designer

Client: FirstEnergy

Location: Weirton, WV

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

About the Role

This role is part of Brooksource's Elevate Program and involves working with a Energy client, FirstEnergy, in Cincinnati, OH.

We are seeking a Distribution Line Designer to support electric utility distribution projects involving new service installations, system upgrades, relocations, and infrastructure improvements. This individual will work closely with customers, field personnel, and internal stakeholders to develop overhead and underground distribution designs while ensuring compliance with applicable standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design single-phase and three-phase overhead and underground distribution facilities for residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
  • Develop construction packages, material requirements, and supporting project documentation.
  • Coordinate with customers and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform field visits and site evaluations to support design and construction activities.
  • Assist with project closeout activities, including documentation review and verification.
  • Support billing and cost recovery processes for line extensions and relocation projects.
  • Coordinate permits and approvals with municipalities, transportation agencies, railroads, and other external organizations. 
  • Facilitate easement documentation and right-of-way requirements.
  • Maintain accurate project records and system data.
  • Support outage restoration efforts, emergency response activities, and storm recovery operations as needed.
  • Travel to customer sites, utility facilities, and field locations within the service territory.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical field required OR High school diploma/GED with 2-5 years of relevant utility, construction, engineering, or distribution design experience.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of utility distribution design practices, construction methods, and electric infrastructure.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, standards, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and seek guidance when needed.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Utility distribution design experience.
  • Experience with design and work management systems.
  • Exposure to outage management, work scheduling, GIS, or asset management platforms.
  • Knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution systems.
  • Experience working directly with customers, permitting agencies, and field operations teams.

Additional Information

  • Position requires regular fieldwork and interaction with customers and operations personnel.
  • Participation in emergency and storm restoration activities may be required, including extended hours when necessary.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working in both office and field environments.
