AI Engineering Technical Manager

About ProMazo

Join ProMazo, the innovative consulting firm that lets you work on real projects for Fortune 500 companies. This isn't just an internship. Our clients have high expectations and tight deadlines. We build and manage teams of the brightest college talent and give you a real chance to shine and make an impact. As a selected team member, you'll be paid for your work and have the flexibility of remote work.

About the Role

As an AI Engineering Technical Manager, you own the technical success of a client engagement. You'll lead a team of AI Engineering Fellows, set the architecture, and be the person a client executive trusts to turn their goals into working AI systems. This is a role for someone who can operate at both ends of the stack: designing agentic systems and reviewing code one day, and framing a technical roadmap for a Chief Strategy Officer the next. You'll be accountable for what ships, and for the growth of the people building it.

What You'll Do

  • Own delivery. Lead the technical direction of one or more engagements: architecture, build, evaluation, and the standards that keep the work reliable.
  • Lead the team. Manage and mentor a team of AI Engineering Fellows: assign work, review code, unblock people, and raise the bar on quality.
  • Be client facing. Work directly with senior client stakeholders, up to and including the C suite, to scope work, manage expectations, and report progress in business terms.
  • Design agentic systems. Make the architecture calls for LLM powered and multi agent systems, including retrieval, orchestration, integration, and evaluation.
  • Run discovery. Lead stakeholder discovery inside client divisions, then translate what you learn into a technical plan the team can execute against.
  • Guard quality. Establish evaluation, testing, and reliability practices so what reaches the client is accurate and trustworthy.

Engagements You Might Lead

Our managers lead live engagements with major companies. Recent and current work includes:

  • A procurement analytics agent for a Fortune 500 company. Leading discovery across procurement groups, then architecting and delivering agent(s) that help the division access the right data faster and more accurately.
  • A suite of strategy agents for an enterprise client, built to advance the company's strategic goals, reporting directly to the Chief Strategy Officer.
  • AI transformation at a major financial institution. Taking the lead on the bank's AI initiatives as it transforms into the AI era.

What We're Looking For

  • A master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI, or a related field, or equivalent depth of hands on experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping AI systems, ideally LLM powered or agentic, beyond research prototypes.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, with fluency in Python and modern AI tooling (LLM APIs, retrieval and RAG, agent frameworks, evaluation).
  • Leadership experience: you've mentored, managed, or led a team, and you enjoy growing other engineers.
  • Executive presence and excellent communication: you can hold your own in a room with a CSO or a bank's AI leadership and translate between technical reality and business goals.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ownership; you set direction rather than wait for it.

Nice to Have

  • Experience deploying AI/ML or agentic systems to production, including LLMOps and MLOps practices.
  • Background in one of our clients' domains: enterprise procurement, corporate strategy, or financial services.
  • A track record of building evaluation frameworks for LLM or agent systems.

Logistics

  • Location: Fully remote.
  • Commitment: Project based; hours and duration vary by engagement.
  • Compensation: Paid, up to $50 per hour.
