Role Overview
TBD Investors is seeking a paid Private Equity Intern / Investment Fellow to support our lower middle market investment activity across the UK, Europe, and other relevant markets.
This internship is designed for candidates interested in private equity, search funds, entrepreneurship through acquisition, lower middle market investing, healthcare services, business services, industrial services, and entrepreneur-led company building.
The role offers exposure to live investment opportunities, industry research, acquisition diligence, CEO support, and portfolio company growth initiatives. This is not a traditional large-cap private equity internship. Interns will work on smaller, messier, more entrepreneurial situations where judgment, curiosity, and ownership matter.
Responsibilities
The intern will support TBD Investors and its portfolio companies on a range of investment and operating projects, including:
Evaluating new investment opportunities across the UK, Europe, and other relevant markets
- Conducting market research and developing industry theses
- Reviewing CIMs, financial statements, quality of earnings reports, lender materials, and management presentations
- Building and reviewing financial models
- Supporting diligence on acquisitions, add-ons, and de novo growth opportunities
- Researching competitors, customers, pricing, regulation, reimbursement, labor dynamics, and industry structure
- Preparing internal investment memos, market maps, and presentation materials
- Supporting searchers and CEOs with deal sourcing, outreach, and pipeline development
- Assisting portfolio companies with strategic initiatives, operational analysis, and expansion planning
- Helping TBD Investors identify attractive sectors, platforms, and operators across Europe
Candidate Profile
We are looking for candidates who are intellectually curious, analytical, practical, and highly self-directed.
Strong candidates may include:
MBA students, Master in Finance students, graduate students, or exceptional undergraduates
- Candidates with prior experience in consulting, investment banking, private equity, search funds, corporate development, entrepreneurship, or operating roles
- Candidates with strong analytical, financial modeling, and business writing skills
- Candidates interested in lower middle market companies, search funds, ETA, entrepreneur-led acquisitions, and operationally intensive investing
- Candidates who can work independently in a remote environment
- Candidates with strong attention to detail and comfort with ambiguous, real-world business problems
- Candidates with a high ownership mentality and willingness to do both strategic and unglamorous work
Location and Timing
The role is based in London, with flexibility for exceptional remote candidates.
We expect most candidates to have meaningful overlap with London and U.S. East Coast working hours. The internship can be structured as part-time during the academic year or full-time during the summer, depending on candidate availability and the needs of TBD Investors.
Remote arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates who can work independently, communicate clearly, and add meaningful value without day-to-day in-person supervision.
Compensation
This is a paid internship. Compensation will depend on location, experience, availability, and scope of work.
Why This Role Is Interesting
This role offers direct exposure to how entrepreneur-led acquisitions are sourced, evaluated, structured, and improved after closing.
Interns may work on live deal review, searcher support, market diligence, operating research, de novo expansion planning, and portfolio company problem-solving. The work is highly practical and often sits at the intersection of investing, entrepreneurship, and operations.
For candidates interested in private equity, search funds, ETA, entrepreneurship, or lower middle market investing, this role offers a hands-on view into how companies are acquired and built.
