Consulting Team Lead Fall 2026

Lead the day-to-day execution of a client consulting engagement, overseeing project workstreams, team execution, and client communication under the guidance of a Director of Consulting.

This opportunity is a part-time, volunteer leadership experience with Appalachia Advisory, a chartered non-profit corporation supporting underserved small business owners across Appalachia through pro bono consulting engagements.

As a Team Lead, you will lead a team of approximately 4–5 Consulting Analysts through an ~8 week client engagement. Team Leads are responsible for translating the project's overall strategy into a clear workplan, managing day-to-day team execution, and ensuring the team produces high-quality, actionable recommendations for the client.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day execution of a client consulting project from kickoff through final delivery
  • Manage and mentor a team of approximately 4–5 Consulting Analysts across project workstreams
  • Translate the project's objectives into a structured workplan, timeline, and clearly defined analyst responsibilities
  • Guide Analysts in problem structuring, hypothesis development, research, analysis, and recommendation development
  • Review and provide feedback on analyses, presentations, and other client deliverables to maintain a high standard of quality
  • Participate in client meetings and manage day-to-day client communication, follow-ups, and information requests
  • Identify project risks, roadblocks, and gaps in analysis and proactively work with the team to resolve them
  • Ensure the team remains on schedule and that workstreams stay aligned with the client's highest-priority business objectives
  • Coordinate with the Director of Consulting to provide project updates, escalate challenges, and incorporate strategic guidance
  • Support the professional development of Analysts through regular feedback, mentorship, and consulting coaching

Ideal candidates should be comfortable delegating work, reviewing others' analyses, facilitating team discussions, interacting directly with clients, and taking ownership of project execution.

We are specifically seeking individuals who are passionate about our mission, supporting small businesses, and advancing social impact initiatives that create meaningful change in marginalized communities.

Previous experience in consulting, strategy, finance, business analysis, entrepreneurship, project leadership, or team management is preferred but not required.

Our teams work directly with business owners through ~8 week consulting engagements focused on areas such as strategy, marketing, operations, growth, and organizational enablement.

Our work is entirely pro bono for clients, allowing our members to develop meaningful consulting experience while creating tangible value for the communities we serve.
