Sales Development Representative
Sales Development Representative (SDR) — Internship
Remote (United States) · Part-time, ~20 hours/week · $17.50/hour + 9% commission
SensorHubb, LLC · Predict. Prevent. Protect.
Start here
At 2:14 on a Saturday morning, the walk-in freezer at an elementary school gives out. The building is empty. Nobody finds out until Monday. By then $8,000 of food is gone and 600 kids need a different lunch.
SensorHubb is the reason that call goes out at 2:16 instead — as a text, an email, and a Microsoft Teams alert, fired at the same moment, to whoever is actually awake.
We build wireless sensors and the software behind them: temperature, air quality, door, pressure, and power monitoring for school districts, hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories, and restaurant groups. More than 1,700 sensors and 700 gateways are live in the field right now. We are backed by the West Virginia Jobs Investment Trust, the state’s public venture fund, and in 2025 we acquired OneEvent Technologies to widen our national footprint.
We are still small. That is the entire pitch. You will not be intern number 47 on a floor of intern number 47s. You will report to the Founder & CEO.
The job, said plainly
You will cold call. A lot. Sixty to eighty dials on a good day, into school nutrition directors, facilities managers, pharmacy directors, and restaurant operations leads.
Your job is to earn thirty seconds of a stranger’s attention, use them well, and put a qualified demo on the calendar. That is the whole role.
If that made you flinch, this is not your internship. If it made you a little competitive, keep reading.
What a full shift looks like
You will work two or three days like this each week, built around your class schedule. All times Eastern.
- 9:00 — Fifteen-minute team standup. What worked yesterday, what died on the vine, what you are trying today.
- 9:15 — Block one. Dials, voicemails, follow-up emails from your own list.
- 11:30 — You listen back to one of your own calls with a teammate and find the exact sentence where you lost them.
- 1:00 — Block two. More dials. You book two demos and hand them off clean, with notes a senior rep can actually use.
- 3:30 — Research for tomorrow. Which districts just failed a health inspection. Which hospital systems posted a facilities job. Which restaurant group just bought three new locations.
- 4:30 — You log it all in HubSpot, because a demo nobody can find is a demo that did not happen.
What you get out of it
- Real money, two ways. $17.50 per hour for every scheduled hour — that is the part you can count on. On top of it, 9% commission on the first-year recurring value of any deal you sourced. Nine percent is the base direct rate in our published company commission plan, the same rate our regional sales directors earn at quota. For this role there is no quota you have to clear first: you are paid on every sourced deal once the customer pays, whether you or a senior rep runs the close. A typical mid-market deal pays about $135 in commission. They add up.
- A skill that pays for the rest of your life. Cold calling is the single most portable, most underrated, hardest-to-fake skill in business. Almost nobody your age has it. Most people never learn it because the first two weeks are uncomfortable.
- A credential. You will complete our self-paced platform training and earn the SensorHubb Platform Certificate — something concrete on your resume, not a line about “assisted the sales team.”
- Access. You will talk to Steven Cotton, our Founder & CEO, and Bryan Cantwell, our CTO, most weeks. Ask them anything. They will tell you.
- A live look at a growing company. SensorHubb has publicly stated plans to add roles as the company scales. When a full-time seat opens, we look at our own interns first. We will be straight with you about timing rather than dangle it.
What we need from you
- Currently enrolled, any major. Some of the best salespeople in this industry studied philosophy, music, or exercise science. We are not going to ask about your transcript.
- You can be told your call was bad and be better on the next one, twenty minutes later.
- Clear speaking voice and clean written English. You are the first impression of the company.
- Reliable internet, a quiet place to work, and the discipline to keep your own schedule without anyone standing over you.
- Roughly 20 hours per week, with at least three hours falling between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Eastern — that is when our buyers pick up the phone.
- Not required: sales experience, a sales class, a sales internship, or knowing what a gateway is. We will teach all of it.
Who this is not for
Someone who wants a title for LinkedIn and four hours a week of low-stakes work. Someone who needs a warm lead list handed to them. Someone who goes quiet after the first ten rejections. Rejection is not a sign the job is going badly — for the first month, rejection is the job. We will tell you that on day one and we are telling you now.

How to apply
Apply through Handshake with your resume. Then do one more thing, because this is a phone job and a resume cannot tell us whether you can hold a phone:
Record a 60-second voice memo or video and attach it. Pretend we are a school nutrition director who just picked up a call we did not want. Open the call. Sixty seconds. One take is fine — one take is better, actually.
We read every resume. We listen to every recording. Applicants who send the recording go to the top of the pile.
Questions before you apply: [HIRING EMAIL].
