About TBD Investors
TBD Investors is a family-office investment platform that backs talented entrepreneurs acquiring and building enduring businesses. We invest our own capital and work closely with our portfolio companies across healthcare, business services, and other essential industries.
Our portfolio companies are often founder-led or searcher-led businesses where interns can have a real impact. This is not a “sit in the corner and observe” internship. We are looking for people who want to help build companies.

About the Role
We are looking for a curious, resourceful, and execution-oriented Software Engineering Intern to build technology across the TBD Investors portfolio.
You will work on real software projects, from identifying business needs and designing solutions to writing, testing, and deploying code. Depending on portfolio company priorities, projects may include customer-facing applications, internal operating tools, workflow automation, system integrations, data infrastructure, and AI-enabled solutions.
This is not an observational internship. You will take ownership of meaningful projects, collaborate with technical and nontechnical teams, and build tools that create measurable value for growing businesses.
Because the role spans multiple portfolio companies, you will also gain experience adapting technology to different industries, operating models, and stages of growth.
What You’ll Do
Depending on your interests, experience, and portfolio company needs, you may:
Build and improve internal web applications and operating tools
Develop digital experiences for customers, employees, and business partners
Automate repetitive workflows and manual processes
Create integrations between operational, financial, clinical, and business systems
Design and work with APIs, databases, and data pipelines
Develop dashboards and tools that make business data more accessible and actionable
Explore practical applications of AI and emerging technologies
Translate business and user needs into clear technical requirements
Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
Test, debug, and improve the reliability of software
Evaluate development tools, software platforms, and third-party solutions
Collaborate with portfolio company leaders and teams across operations, product, analytics, finance, and strategy
Monitor product performance and incorporate feedback from users
Present technical solutions and recommendations to company leadership
Who Should Apply
We welcome undergraduate and graduate students studying:
Computer science
Software engineering
Computer engineering
Information systems
Data science
Applied mathematics
Electrical engineering
Other technical disciplines
Strong self-taught developers and students from other academic backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.
Prior experience in private equity or any specific portfolio industry is not required. We care more about technical ability, curiosity, initiative, and a genuine interest in using technology to solve practical business problems.
Strong candidates will be:
Comfortable programming in at least one modern language
Familiar with software-development fundamentals
Resourceful and able to learn new technologies quickly
Interested in understanding how businesses operate, not only how software is built
Thoughtful about user experience, reliability, privacy, and security
Strong problem solvers and clear communicators
Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
Proactive, dependable, and eager to take ownership
Able to move between different projects, industries, and operating environments
Experience with web development, APIs, databases, cloud platforms, automation, data engineering, or AI-assisted development is helpful but not required.
What You’ll Gain
Hands-on experience building and deploying software in real operating businesses
The opportunity to work across multiple portfolio companies and industries
Ownership of projects with tangible operational or customer impact
Direct exposure to entrepreneurs, company executives, and the TBD Investors team
Experience working at the intersection of technology, operations, product, and strategy
Insight into how technology can help small and growing businesses scale
A portfolio of substantive work demonstrating both technical ability and business judgment
Mentorship and exposure to careers in software engineering, entrepreneurship, investing, and technology-enabled operations
