Sensor Physicist

Sensor Physicist

Twinsburg, Ohio | On-Site | Full-Time

The Sensor Physicist will design, model, and drive custom product development of 3He and 10B radiation proportional counters, ion chambers, fission chambers, UV flame detectors, and NaI(Tl) gamma sensors. This role combines detector physics, computational modeling, signal processing, and product development to create and manufacture neutron, gamma-ray, and UV detectors.

This position requires a strong background in applied physics and the ability to translate scientific principles into commercially successful products through simulation, experimentation, data analysis, and cross-functional engineering collaboration, as well as to support product problem solving in a production environment.

What you'll do

- Design radiation detectors — 3He and 10B proportional counters, ion chambers, fission chambers- Build and run MCNP models to predict detector performance- Review radiation detector and sensor designs- Write and update detector design practices; over time, become the go-to subject matter expert on radiation detectors- Work alongside the production team on detector manufacturing and performance troubleshooting- Coordinate across business functions to keep product lines on track- Analyze datasets and evaluate detector performance- Engage with customers on new detector designs, RMAs, and emerging technologies- Keep plant leadership informed on issues that affect production- Solve physics problems involving radiation detectors — experimental and theoretical

Research & Development

- Translate customer requirements into system and product specifications- Qualify new products through testing and documentation- Present technical results to internal stakeholders, management, and industry conferences- Develop and expand design practices related to radiation detectors

About you

Required:- M.S. or B.S. in Physics, Applied Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field- 2+ years of experience in sensor modeling and development, radiation detection- Strong understanding of radiation interactions with matter, detector physics, neutron and gamma detection, signal processing, and statistical analysis- Experience with experimental design, dataset analysis, and report writing- Strong technical communication and leadership skills

Preferred:- Experience with gas-filled neutron detector technologies- Experience with Monte Carlo transport simulation and detector modeling- Familiarity with nuclear reactor instrumentation and homeland security systems- Demonstrated innovation through patents, product launches, or technical publications
