Quality Engineering Intern
Quality Engineering Intern
Location: Ripon, WI
Timing: Summer 2027 Internship
Overview
We are seeking a curious and detail-oriented Quality Engineering Intern to support our Quality team in Ripon, Wisconsin. This internship provides hands-on exposure to manufacturing quality engineering, structured problem solving, process capability analysis, and cross-functional collaboration on a high-volume production floor.
The Quality Engineering Intern will assist with a defined summer project scoped by a mentor, support the team's day-to-day quality activities, and contribute to improvement work under the guidance of an experienced Quality Engineer.
What You'll Do
Support a defined summer project assigned by your mentor, such as a defect reduction analysis, a process capability study, or a mistake-proofing concept for a recurring assembly error.
Collect, organize, and analyze quality data using Excel, Minitab, or Power BI, and help prepare findings for the team.
Participate in structured root cause and corrective action sessions with cross-functional teams, learning 8D, 5-Why, and fishbone methods on live issues.
Attend daily KPI board reviews and help the team track assigned action items.
Assist with updating Control Plans, PFMEAs, and inspection documentation to match current engineering specifications.
Shadow quality technicians and auditors to understand inspection, test, and audit work firsthand.
Read and interpret technical drawings, including views, title blocks, dimensioning, and GD&T symbols.
Share your project findings and observations with the Quality and Operations teams at the end of the term.
What You'll Bring
Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or a Manufacturing discipline, with sophomore standing or above.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Willingness to spend time on the production floor — this is a hands-on role, not a desk role.
Comfortable using Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel; familiarity with Minitab, Power BI, Visio, or SAP is a plus.
Ability to follow direction, ask thoughtful questions, and collaborate effectively with operators, engineers, and supervisors.
Interest in manufacturing, quality engineering, continuous improvement, or process engineering.

What You'll Gain
Hands-on exposure to quality tools — SPC, capability studies, FMEA, control plans — applied to real processes with real variation.
Experience supporting structured problem solving and seeing how an issue moves from symptom to verified corrective action.
Understanding of how a quality management system operates inside an ISO-certified manufacturer.
Opportunities to develop data analysis, technical communication, and teamwork skills.
A dedicated engineering mentor, regular check-ins, and access to the full Quality team.
Physical Requirements
The role involves a mix of sitting for extended periods, standing and walking the production floor, stooping, bending, and minimal lifting. Manual dexterity is also required.
