Marketing Volunteer at a Peruvian NGO

If you are interested in social media, marketing, designing and creativity and want to combine these interests with an amazing experience volunteering for a Non-profit organisation in Peru, this is the perfect role for you! As a Marketing Volunteer, you will assist the Marketing Coordinator in a variety of tasks and projects related to recruitment and fundraising. You will also get responsibility over our social media accounts and present posts and stories several times per week on both ordered and own initiative. 

This role does not require many hours of work per week, so it is possible to combine the role with another volunteering role. This will allow you to top up your hours and gain experience in more than one field. 

All volunteer our positions are available as internships, which is ideal for students looking to complete a year in industry/placement abroad. In this case, you will receive an extra level of mentorship and all appropriate communication with your academic institution to ensure compliance with internship placement requirements. 

Responsibilities:
  • Creating content and posting on our social media. Mainly Facebook and Instagram with the possibility to also include blogging. 
  • Designing and creating material for marketing, such as flyers, posters, brochures etc.
  • Supporting the Marketing Coordinator during events, campaigns etc. 
  • Contributing with creative and innovative ideas of marketing and development 
  • Distributing marketing materials locally and online 
  • Encourage other volunteers to also be present on our social media 

Requirements:
  • Age 18+ on arrival
  • Current background check from your home country.
  • At least basic Spanish desirable, but not essential.*
  • Knowledge or experience in marketing and/or communications desirable. 
  • Photography and videography skills desirable. 
  • Interest and experience with social media
  • Excellent communication ability.
  • Creativity and the ability to be proactive

*If you want to improve your language skills, we can arrange Spanish classes for you in advance (by Skype) or during your stay.

Time commitment:
Placements can last from 1-12 months, giving you the flexibility to choose between spending a full year/academic year with us, just one semester, or even a summer internship. This makes our opportunities ideal for students looking to gain professional experience during a year in industry or language-based placement abroad.

Generally 25 hours per week, Mon-Fri.

Long-term volunteers are preferred, so that you have a chance to really get to know the community and get comfortable in your role. 

What you can expect from us:

  • 2 days holiday per month
  • 24/7 emergency support 
  • Organized activities (barbeques, game nights, volunteer lunch etc.)
  • Certificate of completion detailing your role, the project(s) you participated in and the dates you volunteered in.

A typical day:
The days for the Marketing Volunteer can be quite varied, depending on what campaign/event/material is in focus that particular week. Social media content creation will be undertaken every day, either by yourself or in collaboration with other volunteers. Other tasks will involve developing different types of marketing resources, assisting with production of newsletters and other publications, preparing & implementing events, updating marketing material for volunteer recruitment, etc. 

If you choose to combine this role with another part-time role, office work can be scheduled around other projects that take place in the mornings or afternoons. For example, one day you might spend the morning working on the OCN Newsletter, then after lunch you might assist in teaching a class at the REC. 

After work, there is plenty of time to catch one of Huanchaco’s world-famous sunsets from the tranquillity of the beach, or indeed from a surfboard. Then there are various options to fill your evening, socializing with local and other volunteers, sampling the famous Peruvian cuisine, attending talks and cultural events, music, dance, theatre, movies- the list is endless.
