Recruitment Coordinator for a Peruvian NGO

The role of Recruitment Coordinator is a great opportunity for those who want to gain experience within HR and people management alongside gaining insight into the world of NGO and grassroots organizations. 

As a Recruitment Coordinator, your primary responsibility will be that of recruiting new volunteers to work with our organization. The Recruitment Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring that our organization is recruiting suitably qualified volunteers and that they receive adequate information, training and support. These responsibilities involve local, national and international recruitment, using traditional sourcing strategies and resources as well as developing new, creative recruitment ideas. You will work closely with our Volunteer Coordinator and Management team to ensure effective communication and develop strong relationships with volunteers before and after their stay. 

The position is a fantastic opportunity for students undertaking a year abroad or for those seeking entry-level work experience after graduation. 

For students, all volunteer positions are available as internships, which is ideal for students looking to complete a year in industry/placement abroad. In this case, you will receive an extra level of mentorship and all appropriate communication with your academic institution to ensure compliance with internship placement requirements. 

Responsibilities:
Recruitment
  • Update recruitment platforms and University outreach.
  • Follow all recruitment protocosl vis a vis timely follow ups of enquiries and responding to requests for information.
  • Liaise with staff and coordinators to answer all queries from potential new volunteers.
  • Report on applications and recruitment development with the Marketing Manager.
  • Conduct or assisting with Skype interviews of new candidates.
  • Recruit ex-volunteers to our OCN Ambassador Program. 
Ambassador and Alumni relations
  • Keep our Ambassadors updated on our work and projects.  
  • Assign Ambassadors tasks and goals. 
  • Conduct periodic ex-volunteer surveys to gather insights.
  • Maintain relationships with alumni

Requirements
  • Age 18+ on arrival (although older applicants are preferred)
  • Minimum intermediate Spanish
  • Current background check from your home country.
  • Knowledge/previous studies related to human resources desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent communication/ conflict resolution/ interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in working with people from different cultural backgrounds desirable.
  • Mature and positive attitude with a good sense of humour.
  • Flexible and enthusiastic.
  • Organized work methodology.

Time commitment:
Placements can last from 3-12 months, giving you the flexibility to choose between spending a full year/academic year with us, just one semester, or even a summer internship. This makes our opportunities ideal for students looking to gain professional experience during a year in industry or language-based placement abroad.

Generally 25 hours per week, Mon-Fri

Long-term volunteers are preferred so that you have a chance to really get to know the community and get comfortable in your role.

  • Certificate of completion detailing your role, the project(s) you participated in and the dates you volunteered in.

A typical day in the role:
On a typical day as a Recruitment Coordinator, be based in the OCN office with the rest of the management team. First and foremost you will answer incoming applications and implement the follow up guidelines to correspond with potential new volunteers. This includes sending out housing information, starter packs, and ensuring that all appropriate contracts and rental agreements have been signed.

You will also work closely with the Volunteer Coordinator and Marketing team to see which positions need filling in the coming months and to advertise these roles according to operational requirements. You will also undertake outreach to our network of Ambassadors, volunteer alumni who represent us in a number of different countries and regions around the world.

After work, there is plenty of time to catch one of Huanchaco’s world-famous sunsets from the tranquillity of the beach, or indeed from a surfboard. Then there are various options to fill your evening, socializing with local and other volunteers, sampling the famous Peruvian cuisine, attending talks and cultural events, music, dance, theatre, movies- the list is endless.
