Infrastructure & Operations Summer 2022 Intern

This position is part of our college intern program. Internships are during the summer months. This internship is available for four-year college students the summer before their graduation date.
We will only be pursuing candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States. We will not be pursuing candidates where Visa sponsorship is needed.

Responsibilities of this role include:

As an Infrastructure and Operations intern, you will receive valuable, hands-on work experience in our Infrastructure and Operations department responsible for Securian’s associate and business application platforms, cyber security technologies, data centers, and network environment. The majority of the internship will be spent working on infrastructure teams engineering and supporting new and existing systems. Projects vary each summer based upon real time business needs. Interns receive targeted training, based on their backgrounds and the project work needs.  

Key infrastructure technologies include:

·      Network and Security Infrastructure – Intrusion Detection and Protection, LAN/WAN, Firewalls, Routers, Switches, Vulnerability Scanning, WiFi
·      Data Center Systems – Physical and Virtual Servers, Mainframe, Storage
·      Business Application Platforms – Content Management and Databases, DevOps Tools, Development Containers/Servers
·      Associate Application Platforms – Collaboration and Productivity Software, Laptops, Smart Phones, Tablets, Virtual Desktops
·      Successful interns from this program get first consideration for full-time Infrastructure and Operations positions.

Required Qualifications:

1.      Pursuing a four-year degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Administration with MIS emphasis, Economics, Engineering or the Physical Sciences.
2.      Strong analytical and design skills, creative problem-solving skills and high attention to detail.
3.      Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively communicate with clients and work as a member of a team.
4.      Ability to take the initiative, have strong sense of urgency and willing to accept a wide range of responsibilities.

Physical job requirements:

·      Ability to work at least 40 hours per week
·      Ability to utilize keyboard, mouse and computer for approximately 1-4 hours per day
·      Ability to utilize telephone for approximately 1-4 hours per day
