Internal Audit Internship Spring 2022

A day in the life of an Audit Intern:

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday
7:00AM to 4:00PM 
During the months of January to April

As a Fortune 300 company, Norfolk Southern’s leadership is dedicated to honest and ethical business practices while focusing on the needs of the customers and communities we serve. Internal Audit Interns in the Atlanta office will assist staff with testing the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting. Daily, an intern within Internal Audit will work with audit staff to conduct controls test work, and assist with seasonal substantive testing for various annual audits. This opportunity affords interns exposure to all Norfolk Southern departments involved with financial transactions for expenditures and revenue, and the capacity to contribute meaningful results used by the company for their annual financial statement, R‑1, and benefit plan audits.

  • Ability to manage time, prioritize work demands effectively, and meet deadlines without sacrificing standards of work
  • Ability to interact with various levels of management while being positive and professional

Education/Experience:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree
  • Preferred Degree Paths: Accounting, Finance, and majors in a similar field of study will be considered
  • Experience with MS Office software and basic accounting, finance or information systems skills
  • Relevant audit and/or compliance coursework
  • Previous work experience in financial or accounting industry
  • Interest in pursuing a CPA is preferred, but not required

Compensation
Sophomore (28 to 59 credits) - $2,800/ month
Junior (60 to 89 credits) - $3,000/month
Senior (90 or more credits) - $3,300/month
Graduate Student - $3,666/month
**Living Stipend of $850/month (taxable) is available to those who qualify

Time Commitment:
REQUIRED: You must be able to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 7AM - 4PM.
