ACE: Museum Collections Member - Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park
Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service is seeking ONE Museum Collections Member to contribute to tasks involving museum collections management and archival research. The Member will serve alongside the Kennesaw Mountain National Park's Interpretation and Education division. The primary responsibility of this position relates to the care, maintenance, and preservation of the park's museum, library, and archival collections through supporting records and storage exhibit areas.
Start Date: October 18th, 2021 (some flexibility may be available for the right candidate)
End Date: January 7th, 2022
*A minimum 12-week commitment is required*
Location: Member will be based at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign that also contains Kennesaw Mountain.

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $430/week to cover the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: Housing is the responsibility of the member and not provided by ACE or National Park Service (NPS).
Scheduling: Tuesday – Saturday 8:45 am – 5:15 pm
AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for a 450-hour AmeriCorps Education Award ($1,678.57) upon successful completion of service hours. Additional enrollment is required.
Position Description: The ACE Member will conduct research of potential objects for acquisition and entering catalog data into Interior Collections Management System (ICMS) database using established NPS procedures. Technical support and guidance will be provided by park museum curator. The member will learn NPS best practices to complete preventative conservation tasks such as museum housekeeping, integrated pest management and environmental monitoring.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performing technical duties in connection with the management of the museum collection.
- Completing baseline assessment of objects in the permanent museum collection.
- Moving and cataloging artifacts.
- Imputing information into ICMS.
- Additional database tasks will include: resolving collection numbering inconsistencies, inventory, description, and database management.
- Performing all established procedures necessary to the conservation of the collections.
- Examples include: rehousing of artifacts, housekeeping tasks, integrated pest management and environmental monitoring
- Research of potential objects for acquisition.
- Assist Park Curator in other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
ACE Requirements:
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Must be 20-35 years of age (Age requirement is due to the Public Land Corps Act)
- Willing to undergo and must pass a federal criminal background check.

- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, with resource professionals.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, have experience working as part of a team, be able to work well with others in a professional setting , and be self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision after the initial training period.
- Hold or be pursuing a minimum of a bachelor's degree and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as history, museum studies, archives management/digital preservation, or other related fields.
- Must have access to a personal vehicle to commute to park.
Preferred:
- Knowledge and skills of the procedures and methods used in collections management or museum operations.
- Teamwork oriented with clear, direct communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer, research, and writing skills
- Knowledge of working with databases such as ICMS are helpful, but not essential.
Training: The KEMO staff will provide basic orientation and training, which includes hands-on mentoring, online webinars, and on-the-job shadowing. Training will include but not limited do; condition assessments, inventorying, training in ICMS (hands-on with curator and online) and various other topics to assist in this important position.
