STEM Communications Intern

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Full-Time Temporary
 
LOCATION: Oak Ridge, TN
 
PURPOSE
Intern will receive training in outreach, communications, and engagement for ORISE STEM-WD programs and serve as a member of a collaborative team focused and enhancing the value of the ORISE experience and creating a community designed to support the future of STEM.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in creating communication, engagement, and outreach materials (websites, videos, print and social media) for internal and external use including design, development, and reporting.
  • Creates, formats, edits, and proofreads correspondence, program literature, announcements, presentations, newsletter articles, and reports using personal computer and word processing, presentation, graphic, database, and spreadsheet software.
  • Develops content for STEM WD Success Stories, including coordinating request process, interviewing sponsors, mentors, participants, and staff, researching topics, drafting and editing content for publications, arranging approvals, promoting content via social media, newsletters, websites, updating SharePoint site.
  • Assists with video development of selected stories.
  • Represents ORISE STEM WD and supports activities related to outreach and ORISE community events, both in person and virtual, including interacting with potential applicants, participants, alumni, mentors, sponsors, and staff.
  • Serves on teams and committees, and on special projects.
  • Provides customer service by monitoring multiple email boxes for general inquiries.
  • Identifies, researches, and develops special project related to communication, engagement, or outreach interests to add value to ORISE STEM WD with presentation to leadership.


Qualifications:

High school diploma and 2-4 years of job related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

Knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position include:
  • Requires strong skills in communication, writing and editing, multi-tasking, organization, and ability to work productively in a collaborative and multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of graphic design, social media engagement, and video or digital media preferred.
  • Proof of a COVID vaccination per the Safer Federal Workforce Task Force Guidance for Federal Contractors.
