Deseret Digital Media (DDM) is seeking an entry-level Software Engineer to join our technology team on a short-term paid internship working on our KSL Classifieds products.
In a typical week, software engineers on this team will develop and maintain features for the KSL Classifieds products. The Software Engineering Intern will work alongside a team of software engineers, QA engineers, product managers and graphic designers to collaboratively build modern web applications.
The ideal candidate has some experience using backend or frontend technologies to create web applications, demonstrates excellent communication skills and shows an excitement to learn new skills and technologies.
Internship requirements:
- Must be currently enrolled in a BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, have recently graduated, or completed a web-specific programming bootcamp
What you’ll bring:
- Some experience with some modern web software development technologies
- A desire to learn new and emerging technologies
- An ability to work collaboratively with members of your team, including software and QA engineers, product managers and graphic designers
- An ability to think strategically and acquire problem-solving skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- A goal-oriented focus with high personal drive, integrity and energy
- An ability to take direction and work autonomously in addition to working in collaborative sessions
What you’ll do:
- Work with engineers at KSL Classifieds to build and maintain modern web applications
- Build and maintain modern web applications using technologies like Javascript, Node, React and Next.js.
- Collaborate with team-members to develop new features for KSL Classifieds
What you’ll learn:
- Frontend and backend programming in Javascript/Node for production, high-traffic applications
- Code review skills, both in receiving feedback and giving constructive feedback
- Code quality maintenance and security with modern tools
- How to be an active participant in all parts of the software development lifecycle
- How to learning and develop best practices with version control software like Git and Github
- How to acquire and develop problem-solving skills working with a high-traffic application
- Methods of collaboration on production software in a small-team environment with other software engineers, QA engineers, product managers and graphic designers
It’s a bonus if you:
- Have experience building web applications in React and Next.js
- Have worked with or understand database and search technologies
- Understand the purpose of unit tests and code quality tools
- Understand agile methodologies and practices
