Immunization Requirements
You must obtain the listed immunizations or have current written records of immunizations and submit verification (readable copies) for each of the applicable immunizations to our office no later than the start of the class. Include the name of the facility and practitioner, official seal, stamp or log of the facility/practitioner and date of the immunizations. Please be sure to make copies of your immunization records. Originals will not be returned
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)- positive titer Only - within the last 5 years
  • Hepatitis B- positive titer Only - within the last 5 years
  • Chicken pox (Varicella)- positive titer Only - within the last 5 years
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (TDAP)- proof of immunization - within the last 5 years 
  • Meningitis vaccination- proof of immunization - within the last 5 years
  • TB/PPD- negative TB/PPD skin test within the last 3 months
  • Influenza vaccination- * Only needed if course falls between November-April
  • Covid-19 vaccination series - *refer to local college, state, or federal regulations/requirements

As a student attending an EMT class, the following expectations below will apply to you upon successful completion of the EMT class as well as acquiring any required certifications/licenses.
 
                                          
JOB SUMMARY
Conduct basic life support skills as allowed by the local, state, and federal protocols and assist in the delivery of seriously ill or injured patients to appropriate hospital personnel. Provide basic information relative to identification and condition of patient. Must use sound judgment in the analysis of emergency and non-emergency situations and react calmly and quickly under those circumstances. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
  • Drives an emergency vehicle to and from calls to transport patient(s) in a safe and prudent manner using the most efficient route to ensure the quickest response times.
  • Must demonstrate competency in handling emergencies utilizing all basic life support equipment and skills in accordance with all behavioral objectives in the EMT curriculum. 
  • Assists in carrying patient(s) by stretcher or other device to emergency vehicle and secure patient inside the vehicle choosing the safest means of transport.
  • Initiates patient treatment and care utilizing initial protocol treatment based on patient condition. Conducts basic life support skills.
  • Obtains and preserves where possible samples of substances to assist hospital personnel in patient diagnosis and treatment as established by local operations procedures.
  • Observes and keep records regarding symptoms of patients as established by local operations procedures.
  • Communicates information to other members of the healthcare profession, patients, family members, and other responders as necessary and appropriate.
  • Accurately and completely documents all information required by GMR and the local and state medical control.
  • Completes and submits all other documentation (i.e. Daily Check Sheet) as established by local operations procedures.
  • Communicates any possible delays, customer service issues, supply shortages, equipment malfunctions etc., to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Follows up with customers as appropriate to gain feedback on services provided, seeking opportunities for process improvement as established by local operations procedures.
  • Inspects, safely operates, and maintains all equipment, supplies, and tools to meet standards set by GMR, local state, and local medical control. Requisitions and restocks supplies, material, and equipment.
  • Checks emergency vehicle regularly to ensure vehicle is in good operating condition throughout shift.
  • Cleans and maintains the cleanliness of GMR property, including but not limited to its vehicles, equipment, buildings, and surrounding area(s)
  • Maintains a safe and healthy workplace as per the standards set forth by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and GMR.
  • Stays current with leading industry practices/knowledge base.
  • Comply with all current policies and procedures. Remains aware of all policy changes and information posted on EMSA, on company notice boards, company email, and by communicating with leadership staff.
  • Maintains all required licenses and certifications as established by local operations procedures.
  • Attends all required staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Education:
  • High School diploma or GED
Skills:
  • Functional literacy (oral and written) in English
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Credentials/Licenses: (local county requirements for certifications may vary)
  • Current State Driver’s License
  • Meets company required Driver Qualification Standards

  • Frequently: See the Physical Agility Test, kneeling, stooping, bending, leaning, flexibility, multiple physical activities performed at the same time (carrying multiple equipment while pushing on pram)
  • Constantly: Hearing/listening, clear speech, simple touching, walking (inside and outside), pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, driving ambulance, seeing
Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement while working in stressful conditions.
