Candidate serves as a Computer Scientist with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Engineer Research and Development Center. Works independently with minimal supervision and general guidance. Be able to participate across interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, computer engineers, electrical engineers, and general engineers to develop innovative solutions in a timely manner to increase support to the Civil and Military research & development missions.   

Uses fundamentals for application and development of software engineering solutions. Proposes solutions to improve processes and maximize mission accomplishments and resource utilization.  Must be able to maintain technical proficiency in software engineering research through interaction with technical and professional organizations, academia, contractors, and other research and development organizations. May be required to author or co-author technical journal articles and give professional society presentations.

The duties include: using knowledge of computer science and advanced mathematics in support of reimbursable funded projects; using fundamental understanding of languages and technologies such as .NET, Java, C/C++/C#, JavaScript, HTML, PHP, and other software development technologies to develop web-based software component applications; using fundamental knowledge of relational databases to use structured query language to interact with the database to retrieve data for display or to send data for storage; collaborating with customer to define system requirements for implementation and assisting in resolution of system issues; using leadership skills to assist engineers and scientists teams in the incorporation of software components into overall software development architecture.

Official travel, not to exceed 30%, is required.
