Utility Systems WAM IT Developer Internship

We are seeking students who are eager to learn, self-motivated and are comfortable working independently. This internship will make an impact!

You will become familiar with our applications that support our Utility operations strategic goals. Our goal is to have you identify applications that have potential to either be absorbed into another platform system or the possibility of moving to a cloud-based system.

These projects are designed to enhance your communication and teamwork skills, as you will be collaborating with individuals across all functions in our organization. You will work alongside professionals in your field, gaining in-depth knowledge about the energy industry and your chosen field of expertise. You will apply what you have learned in school to impactful projects within a publicly traded, multi-state utility and energy company. PAY:  $17.00 per hour (set by job function/department)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager IT Utility Systems

LOCATION: Our Corporate Headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota.  
  • Relocation allowance of $1,000 provided to assist with moving. 

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or similar field. Sophomore or above is required. 
  • No experience required. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
  • Document a roadmap for legacy custom applications into platform systems.
  • Research and develop a unit test pattern/strategy for our different code bases.
  • Define integration points between our systems and automate integration testing.
  • Work with application owners to ensure purge processes are setup and automated per retention policy.
  • Work on robust alerts to ensure valid information is provided on issue that are occurring in our applications.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate with employees and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Ability to prepare and give presentations.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel. 
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of business information.
  • Knowledge of but not limited to IIS, MS Teams, MS Azure and DevOps, SQL or Oracle database technology, Gitlab, HTML CSS, Javascript, Powershell, Linux.

Work environment: Routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level. Willing to travel occasionally (less than 10 days per year) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities.
