Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Intern (2023 Summer Intern Program)

The Watts Internship Program is strategically designed to allow you to utilize what you have learned in the classroom while gaining a true understanding of the business world by applying those key principles through hands-on experience. During the internship, students will gain exposure to and impact operations. There will be many chances to network with like-minded manufacturing, industrial engineering, and beyond professionals to stimulate your mind through cross-departmental collaboration.  


The Diversity and Inclusion Internship Program offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite candidates who are curious about careers in water technologies and human resources to become a part of our team.  


Locations: Opportunity to be fully remote or hybrid, dependent upon location

What You’ll Do   
  
 This internship opportunity will be led by the Manager of Talent Excellence and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and supported by our Talent & Culture department. As our Talent and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Intern you will work in a cross-departmental capacity, collaborating on projects and programming related to recruiting, talent management, talent development, HR analytics, and metrics interpretations, ESG, marketing, corporate communications, community relations, employee engagement through the DEI lens, accessibility (DEI), and social justice. In addition to exploring our institutional DEI initiatives, you will be able to learn first-hand from our HR Managers and Associates. Interns will also aid in the maintenance and day-to-day operations of various recruiting platforms and will be deeply involved in HR analytics.

The Talent and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Intern should have an interest in human resources, as well as currently, demonstrate a commitment to DEI and community engagement through academic, professional, or volunteer experience. 
 
The internship will be approximately 13 weeks, and during your time with Watts, you will focus on the following:  
  
  • Create creative communications: bring your ideas for new ways to showcase the work of diversity and inclusion across our internal and external communications channels – including helping to storyboard, design, and create collateral such as videos, infographics, video teasers, presentations, and more. Learn more about our corporate brand and style and lean into your creativity and understanding of effective and engaging communications.  
  • Support global projects and initiatives: support the design, development, and execution of our global D&I initiatives focused on diverse talent attraction and retention, workplace inclusion and belonging, and employee resource group program management. Gain hands-on experience in this space and help shape our approach by bringing your ideas and perspective to the table.  
  •  Collaborate across teams and geographies: you will work closely with the full global HR team (based in the US, Europe, and APMEA) along with key stakeholders from around the world – including those in Communications, Marketing, Operations, and Legal.  
  • Coordinate key events and programming: play a role in bringing to life D&I events and activations – from large-scale global programming to small D&I roundtable sessions. Leverage your ability to manage multiple moving parts and event logistics, communicate effectively across teams and with key stakeholders, and ensure a high level of attention to detail throughout.  
  • Research on leading trends: learn more about leading practices, programs, and trends in the D&I space – and provide summaries and recommendations to the D&I team on topics such as the future of work, allyship, employee resource group program management, ESG reporting, and organizational training.  
  • Collaborate with HR Leadership: Work with our Talent Management, Talent Development, and Talent Acquisition leaders and add value related to topics around embedding DEI methodologies and philosophies into current processes and assist in enhancing the overall strategy.  
  
 
Minimum Qualifications  

  • Current student (sophomore, junior or senior status) actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Human Resources Management, Cultural Anthropology, Sociology, Political Science, Humanities, or related degree  
  • Effective communicator including strong writing and interpersonal skills  
  • Have a creative mindset and experience designing and creating a range of visual assets (e.g., videos, graphics, presentations)  
  • Can prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment  
  • Self-motivated with comfort working with colleagues across multiple office locations by way of video and use of online tools  
  • Highly collaborative and can effectively build relationships with cross-functional partners  
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail  
  • Interest in diversity, equity, inclusion, allyship, and belonging work – and desire to deepen expertise in this space   
  • Possess high-level analytical skills and perform data modeling and statistical analysis

*Physical Requirements   
While performing the duties, the employee will be working in an office environment with exposure to the plant floor as well as the Engineering Test Facility. The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to handle objects and other tools.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The Employee may be required to lift, push, and/or pull up to 20 pounds.
