2023 Summer Intern Program – Information Technology

Obtain the skills required to become an Information Technology Professional. Become a member of our Technology team responsible for supporting the Technology program for SMBC and associated entities in multiple geographical locations.

SMBC is seeking sharp, talented, and energetic Information Technology Interns passionate about a career in Technology to join our New York team. If you will be graduating in December 2023 or May 2024 and are looking for your next challenge, we want to speak with you!

This internship provides a combination of training and mentorship with skilled and experienced information security professionals that is designed to teach enterprise class information security principles and best practices.

What is the Opportunity?
SMBC hosts a 10-week Summer Intern Program for undergraduate students who will have the opportunity to work on teams, be exposed to significant firm-wide projects within their respective business areas and support a range of deals with our clients.
We offer many different opportunities including building financial models, developing client presentations, conducting research, and observing client meetings – all to improve their understanding of the global banking industry.
 
 
Computer Engineering: A professional that manages and designs computer hardware systems.
 
Computer Forensic: A professional that investigates and analysis techniques to gather and preserve evidence from a particular computing device in a way that is suitable for presentation in a court of law.
 
Computer Programming: Is a process of writing code to facilitate specific actions in a computer, application or software program and instructs them on how to perform.
 
Computer Science: A professional who researches and analyzes how computers store and use information.
 
Data Science: A professional who utilizes their analytical, statistical, and programming skills to collect, analyze and interpret large data sets.
 
Database Management: A professional that creates and manages databases, allowing users to create, read and delete data in a database.

How Our Program Works
 
Our Summer Intern Program is designed for students who completed their junior year.
This 10-week program commences in June and includes:
  • Orientation
  • Training with on-the-desk experience
  • Senior Speaker Series
  • Japanese cultural activities
  • Social networking activities
  • Volunteer Day with a local nonprofit
  • Mentorship opportunity with both a junior and senior mentor at SMBC

The successful candidate will possess or demonstrate the following personal and professional attributes: 
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree from an accredited university with a graduation date of December 2023 or May 2024; excellent academic record
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with specific ability to communicate concepts and ideas concisely
  • Financial modeling/valuation and analytical skills; keen interest in finance and markets or financial modeling/valuation and analytical skills
  • Ability to comfortably interact with clients in a professional and mature manner
  • Outstanding ethics, integrity, and judgment
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Comfort in and commitment to a strong teamwork environment
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, self-driven, and motivated
  • Advanced Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills and the ability to quickly learn new software applications. Information Technology is a plus
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving skills
  • Experience in Information Technology is a plus

The hourly rate of pay for a position in this program is $54.95 per hour. Individuals in this program will typically work a 35 hour work week.
