Accounting Intern

Job Title: Accountant Intern

Description:
Springfield Clinic’s comprehensive intern program will provide you with the tools and knowledge to carry you forward in your career. As an SC Intern, you will have an opportunity to experience meaningful work in your area of interest, define your career goals, develop new skills, and build relationships across the Springfield Clinic team.
In this role, you will obtain private-sector accounting experience in a fast-growing healthcare organization that may lead to full-time career opportunities at Springfield Clinic. You will rotate through various areas of responsibility, develop technical skills, and learn operational and business practices. The Accountant Intern will be responsible for contributing to the clinic’s accounting & finance team by completing accurate and timely general ledger postings, work papers and analyses. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to contribute to special projects as a finance subject matter expert.
This is a paid internship position for the summer of 2023 and is located in Springfield, IL.
Job Relationships
Reports to a Senior Accountant
Principal Responsibilities
  • Shadow multiple office positions and train in a variety of tasks.
  • Accept designated, business-oriented projects to research, propose ideas and solutions, and present final findings.
  • Attend organization and/or department functions and networking events.
  • Provide suggestions to management for improving internal processes.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Complete financial analyses requested by physicians, finance leadership, or others.
  • Complete timely and accurate recording of journal entries, including the development and maintenance of comprehensible and accurate support
  • Complete timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations and income statement analyses
  • Provide insightful analysis of balance sheet accounts through reconciliation
  • Maintain a proficient understand of general ledger structure & function
  • Uphold a standard of professionalism and sound judgment
  • Perform other job duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities
  • Must be pursuing a degree in Accounting or Finance and have completed basic and intermediate accounting coursework.
  • Must be a self-starter, extremely organized, with a high attention to detail, and able to work independently with moderate supervision or direction.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Energetic and eager to tackle new projects and ideas.
  • May require educational and/or professional seminars or conferences.
Working Environment:
  • Professional office environment.
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
