2023 Summer Intern: Ad Policy, Walmart Connect

We have two openings under this position - (1) Ad Policy Enforcement Intern and (1) Ad Policy Creation/Research/Writing Intern see descriptions below:
Ad Policy Enforcement Intern 

Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Upholds existing Walmart Connect Policies by reviewing, approving, or rejecting requests submitted on behalf of retailers for advertisements to run in Walmart stores, on Walmart.com, and on external partner sites based on established policies and procedure.   
  • Collaboration: Works with Senior Management, other enforcement team members, as well as Ad Policy Creation team members, to ensure our platform and brand image is protected by actioning cases and assisting in the adaptation of policies as needed.    
  • Analysis: Is able to quickly and efficiently review and determine the appropriate action to be taken on submitted requests for approval, including but not limited to: reviewing ad creatives ( images, videos, etc. ) for inappropriate or prohibited content, ensuring ad policy guardrails are followed for each submission, provide detailed feedback to XFN partners on what improvements or modifications are needed in order to maintain compliance on non-compliant advertisements, and more.   
  • Influential Communication: Work closely with Senior Management, other enforcement team members and members of the Ad Policy Creation team to ensure that any and all issues on creatives are discussed and addressed in a timely and detailed fashion, ability to work cross-functionally with other Walmart Connect teams on an as needed basis to discuss new and upcoming initiatives, as well as providing updates and reasoning behind changes to policy, provide succinct and actionable feedback on processes and procedure that may need adaptation, and be a thought partner for the Walmart Connect Ad Policy team moving forward.  

Skills: 

  • Interest in online advertising regulations, policies, risk prevention, trust and safety, and management 
  • Experience researching and solving complex issues.  
  • Organizational and project management skills –Ability to identify high-risk and low-risk items and prioritize accordingly, providing timely resolution of complex situations that could be harmful to our company or brand. 
  • Passion for Learning – Consistently display willingness and eagerness to improve upon current knowledge and skillset and grow personally and professionally, through regular discussions with leadership and team members. 
  • Detail-oriented – Ability to dive into complex issues and distill information down to simple, digestible communication. 
  • Ability to operate in the ‘gray’ – Provide data driven, detail oriented and innovative solutions to problems that sometimes do not fall within existing policy parameters. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Potentially relevant majors include: Policy, Public Policy, Marketing – Promotion and Advertising Management, Web Based and Retail marketing, Advertising, Customer Behavior, Consumer Behavior and Marketplace Studies, Communications, B.A. Psychology.
Ad Policy Creation/Research/Writing Intern

Responsibilities: 

  • Customer Service: Handles daily advertisement policy questions from internal stakeholders. Enforces policies and responds to a wide array of requests with a sense of urgency and positive action.  
  • Collaboration: Engages cross-functionally with a wide range of people with different skill sets to ensure compliance with advertising policy guidelines.  
  • Research: Provides input on the development and roll out of advertising policies that support and protect Walmart, our customers, and our advertisers.   
  • Analysis: Sifts through trends related to policy issues across the industry and identifies possible optimizations to policy. Provides supporting data to advocate for stakeholder buy-in.  
  • Influential Communication: Distills complex information clearly and accurately and addresses ambiguity in a positive and constructive manner. Seeks and provides constructive feedback, anticipates needs/questions, and responds proactively. 
Skills: 

  • Interest in online advertising regulations, policies, risk prevention and management 
  • Organizational and project management skills, ability to prioritize 
  • Experience researching and analyzing complex issues  
  • Detail-oriented, with an ability to distill the complex to simple both verbally and written 
  • Consistent, objective, data and revenue-driven point of view when making decisions often without a clear right answer

  • Ability to stay objective when researching potentially sensitive and divisive topics 
  • Relevant majors include: Policy, Public Policy, English, Journalism, History, Pre-Law (poli-sci), Ethics minors 
Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program currently 
  • Expected graduation date between December 2023-August 2024 
  • 0-1 years of full-time relevant experience (excludes internship and research-based roles)
