Cosmos Technologies, Inc. is seeking to fill the position of an entry-level GIS Specialist for several projects in the Pittsburgh and Harrisburg areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The qualified candidate will serve as part of a team of professionals that conduct GIS responsibilities and supporting engineering projects with assistance on large and major projects as well as but not limited to:
- Facilitating and assisting with project management with the Sr. Engineers.
- The GIS specialist will be responsible for building and maintaining GIS databases and utilizing the GIS software to analyze the spatial and non-spatial information in the databases.
- The candidate will be responsible for creating, designing, and implementing systems and data to store and access spatial data sets, and design maps in both paper form and digital (online access maps).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field (Bachelors preferred)
- Possess strong Information Technology skills Be able to read, understand, and digitize technical drawings and maps into GIS software (ArcMap, QGIS, among others).
- Supporting the development and management of GIS applications that are based on growing and improving business demands
- Overseeing the planning and coordination of GIS activities to meet the outlined goals
- Developing and managing control quality standards for system application
- Performing data capture and analysis for GIS product
- Overseeing data flow, management, and distribution activities that are aimed at supporting GIS
- Supporting and participating in the designing and development of the geospatial database
- Maintaining up-to-date and accurate geospatial documentation for reference purposes
- Staying up to date or up-to-date with the latest developments in the GIS field
- Giving support in the development of a work plan for complex projects
- Efficiently managing geospatial databases and developing effective maps and aerial photography.
- Create and manage vector (shapefiles) and raster data using ArcMap and QGIS.
- Be able to read, understand, and digitize technical drawings and maps into GIS software (ArcMap, QGIS, among others).
- Produce maps, map templates, and manage style presentations in GIS software (ArcMap, QGIS, among others).
- Create and fill databases from physical and scanned copies of engineering records, notebooks, among others.
- Connect GIS software with online GIS sources (databases, maps).
- Search and download GIS online information required by each specific project.
- Have knowledge about geodesic coordinate systems and be able to transform GIS information between them using GIS software (ArcMap, QGIS, among others).
- Knowledgeable and helpful in various projects; including construction and inspection services
- Adaptable and dependable
- Willing to travel
- Open to obtaining additional professional certifications
- Strong time management, problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Additional Skills (Not Required):
- Knowledge of Python, CAD, and SQL.
