Position Summary

We are seeking candidates for the full-time tenure-track position in Bellevue College's award-winning Healthcare Management & Leadership (HCML) program. A typical teaching load consists of three (3) five-credit courses plus office hours. Additional responsibilities include student advising, participating in curriculum development and assessment, participating in college governance, maintaining professional expertise in healthcare management and leadership, and building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. In addition to its nationally recognized Bachelor of Applied Science degree, HCML anticipates offering a three-course certificate beginning in academic year 2023. Instruction is currently offered online but may in the future be offered in other formats; the successful candidate will be expected to deliver instruction in modalities that the program determines best meets its goals.

The selected candidate will perform duties and functions under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and will report directly to the Division Dean of the Health, Sciences, Education & Wellness Institute (HSEWI).

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Annual Salary Range: $70,923.89 - $99,471.30

Annual salary is based on a 176-day contract with a minimum of $70,923.89; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience. New hires cannot be placed above $76,047.89 unless exceptional circumstances prevail. Certain positions may also be eligible for assignment/project-based additional compensation, including a High Demand Stipend up to $8,350 annually, prorated based on the discipline and duration of the assignment. All additional compensations are subject to change depending on funding and negotiated agreement.

About the Department

Bellevue College offers an award-winning Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Healthcare Management & Leadership (HCML). The HCML BAS program enrolled its first students in fall 2016. The program imparts the knowledge, skills and abilities that graduates will need to be effective healthcare managers and leaders. HCML BAS is currently an exclusively online, asynchronous program and enrolls students throughout the United States. Courses include human resources, health law, quality management, strategic operations, global health, finance, project management, and marketing. HCML falls under the Health Sciences, Education & Wellness Institute. The HCML program embraces the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, community involvement, and life-long learning. In addition to the Bachelor of Applied Science, Bellevue College anticipates offering a Certificate in Healthcare Management & Leadership beginning Fall 2023.

HCML BAS has won numerous awards for its curriculum, teaching expertise, and affordability. HCML boasts impressive student success rates, and the program has grown significantly since its inception. HCML has developed a robust field studies program with internship partners across the country. Most out-of-state students are eligible to pay in-state tuition. The HCML Advisory Committee includes C-level executives and other senior healthcare executives as well as program alumni. HCML BAS is a selective admissions program.

Essential Functions

Our tenure-track faculty performs responsibilities under the general direction of the Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Health Sciences, Education and Wellness Institute (HSEWI). This faculty member will:

• Fulfill an average of 15 credit-hour equivalencies of instruction per quarter
• Design, instruct, and assess assigned courses in a manner that promotes equity and student success
• Teach courses offered primarily online with a possible hybrid model, on a variety of days and/or times, with a multi-cultural multi-ability student population
• Incorporate active student learning, with emphasis on cultural competency and current educational theories/research
• Provide culturally-responsible advising to students in academic and career pathway planning, including navigating obstacles that underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations may experience in college (e.g. students with disabilities, students of color, first generation college students, LBGTQIA+, Veterans, English language learners, etc.)
• Participate in program marketing and student recruitment activities for a diverse and pluralistic population
• Contribute to program development and curriculum revision that reflect current and future trends in healthcare management and leadership
• Attend and contribute to regular department and division meetings
• Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional healthcare organizations, and expand those where appropriate
• Participate in the life and culture of the department, division, and college, such as the college-wide effort to dismantle barriers that can impact underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations
• Perform related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited institution in healthcare-related field (e.g. MHA, MPH) or - in Business Administration (MBA) with healthcare experience. Any combination of relevant experience can be substituted on a year-for-year basis
• 3-5 years of experience in healthcare leadership role and/or in an educational setting related to healthcare management and leadership
• Prior experience that shows understanding of the impact of diverse socioeconomic, academic, cultural, ethnic, and ability backgrounds of individuals
• Experience cultivating a culturally-diverse environment

Preferred Qualifications

• College-level teaching experience in healthcare management and leadership courses
• Prior experience that shows knowledge and familiarity with current theories, research, and practice in healthcare management and leadership
• Experience in management and leadership within a healthcare organization and the supervision of healthcare workers
• Ability to collaborate with local and regional healthcare organizations for student internship placements and supervise internship placements
• Ability to use a variety of instructional modalities, including hybrid and online instruction
• Experience in addressing disproportionate Impact and equity issues
• Background or prior experience that shows ability to create a positive and caring learning environment, ideal to teach a diverse population of students
• Background or prior experience that shows commitment to personal and professional development, and participation in state, regional, or national professional organizations for healthcare management and leadership
• Effective communication and listening skills; effective team player and leader
