Ecological Restoration Designer/Water Resources Engineer I

RES is currently accepting applications for an Ecological Restoration Designer/Water Resources Engineer I, based out of our Warrenton, VA office.
 
The mission: Join a growing, multi-disciplinary team of ecosystem restoration designers and water resource engineers currently working on some of the nation’s largest rivers, streams, and wetland restoration projects. This is a team with a flexible working style, that works independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs.

What your day-to-day might look like?

30% of your time will consist of Fieldworkwhere you will be performing geomorphic, biological, and ecological site assessments, fulfilling mitigation crediting field protocols, and applied fluvial geomorphic/hydraulic surveys.
You will be also visiting our project sites where you will be performing construction oversight and post-construction monitoring – please be ready to travel extensively and stay overnight on our project sites!
 
30% of your time will consist of producing technical documentation related to the restoration design process - writing proposals, regulatory permit applications, and post-construction monitoring reports. We might ask you to produce a writing piece to showcase your communication skills!
You will also be processing data for mitigation crediting calculations purposes and help out with cost estimates and construction specifications for the projects.
 
40% of your time will consist of design, where you will develop design metrics and parameters into a 3-dimensional design with the Autodesk Civil 3D environment. You will then assist the team in AutoCAD plan production to develop preliminary, final, and construction restoration plan sets.

Qualifications

We would love to talk to you if you have many of the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree and 0 to 3+ years experience in a natural resources design field (such as but not limited to: landscape architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering, biological systems engineering, agricultural engineering, or water resources engineering) or a natural sciences field (such as but not limited to: geology, geomorphology, environmental science, ecology, or biology).
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, HEC-RAS or other hydrologic and hydraulic software
  • Knowledge of field survey and data collection techniques
  • Knowledge of fluvial geomorphology
 
 What will make you stand out?
  • Understanding of the use of regional regressions, regional curves, and reference data in stream restoration design
  • Ability to evaluate design discharge, channel cross-section, profile, and planform using a variety of methods
  • Familiarity with Clean Water Act, state, and federal environmental regulations and permitting processes
  • Ability to read and interpret ecological restoration construction plans
  • Ability to interpret results from H&H models
  • Current industry-related registration or the ability to obtain registration upon employment
