Mechanical Engineer (Req 3987)

Job Overview


Provide engineering support in the design, construction, and maintenance for facilities at the NASA Johnson Space Center, White Sands Test Facility site, Las Cruces, NM. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible to lead and prepare engineering design criteria documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications for mechanical systems including HVAC, pumps, pressure vessel systems (PVS), heating and cooling water piping system, compressed air systems, building automation systems, and various other special systems. Manages mechanical design process and orchestrates the planning, design, cost estimating, and phased scheduling for projects. Assess feasibility and completeness of proposed engineering tests, equipment, projects, and designs. Provides engineering support for both preventative and corrective maintenance as well as trouble analysis.

Responsibilities


Essential Duties & Job Functions:

Perform mechanical design and planning work for new construction, renovation, and improvement projects for a variety of real property facilities.

Primary deliverables include scopes of work, specifications documents, and cost estimates for future projects.

Utilize professional knowledge of mechanical theory, standard engineering theory and techniques, and local regulations to perform requirements, determinations, technical assistance, and conventional design work.

Ability to work independently, or with minimal supervision relying heavily on prior professional experience and knowledge of state and local regulations.

Ensures the highest standards are achieved and maintained in terms of safety, environmental performance, quality, and efficiency and makes recommendations for improvement when necessary.

Supports mechanical projects during construction, including coordinating answers to Requests for Information, Change Orders, and solving problems that arise in the field.

Serves as consulting engineer for mechanical related design aspects of assigned projects.

Provides professional consultations on a broad range of difficult mechanical engineering issues and problems, and advice to requesting organizations.

Assist in determining requirements, assembling requirements document, attending design committees and processes.

Engages Engineering Support personnel for CADD and GIS support during project development.

Serves as mechanical engineer-of-record for design documents and reports covering mechanical systems.

Prepares and presents informal and formal presentations to the customers and management.

Supports and participates in the company safety program.

Performs other related duties as assigned.


Job Requirements


Mandatory:

Position requires a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university program.

Minimum of five (5) years of applicable/relevant mechanical engineering experience.

Skill in the use of MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint at an intermediate level.

Ability to pass pre-hire background and drug screening as required on the contract.

Ability to obtain and maintain the required level clearance.

U.S. Citizenship.

Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
