Environmental Technician I - (Dam Safety Program) - Temporary

Location:      Montpelier based with field work throughout Vermont
Duration:      Temporary appointment, Full-time May 2023 through August 2023 with possibility of part-time work in Fall 2023. 
 
The Dam Safety Program of the Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking a highly motivated individual who is interested in joining a small team of engineers for the summer. This is a unique opportunity for someone pursuing a career as a civil engineer, especially if you have an interest in the design and construction of dams.
 
Much of our work is in the field and you will be teaming up with program engineers to carry out dam inspections and other projects throughout the state. Work in the office will consist of contacting dam owners by telephone, scheduling site visits, preparing inspection reports, updating database records and files, and correcting or verifying GIS spatial information. Other duties may be assigned, including construction inspection, and hydrologic/hydraulic computations. 
 
Applicants should have completed at least two years in an undergraduate program of studies in engineering, a biological-life or physical science, math, or natural resources field or hold an Associate's degree in engineering, a biological-life or physical science, math, or natural resources field. Interpersonal skills necessary to work as part of a team and interact with the public are very important. Good organizational, technical writing and computer skills are definite pluses.
 
There is some flexibility in the starting and ending dates.
