Intern, Human Resources (Course Credit)

Position Title:        Intern, Human Resources

Reports to:              Senior Manager, Human Resources
 
Position Summary:
Special Olympics International Headquarters' Human Resources team supports the employment of staff in several regions around the world, including North America, Asia Pacific, East Asia, Africa, Middle East, Europe, and Latin America. This position will assist the Human Resources department in several areas, including HRIS administration, compliance, recruiting administration, training and development, international labor practices, policy, and recognition. There will be a strong focus on HRIS, policy, and research.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Research projects as assigned, in areas such as policy, benefits, professional development, wellness and recognition programs, etc.
  • Assist HR with administration of HRIS – UltiPro, including pulling reports and reconciling data.
  • Assist with recruiting, such as developing recruiting plans and coordinating recruiting efforts, such as conducting phone screens and reference checks. 
  • Assist with reviewing and editing HR documents.
  • Assist with administering the new employee onboarding program for all new hires.
  • Support in reviewing and approving payroll. 
  • Provide administrative and organizational support for the HR team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in college courses and is considered at least sophomore status at start of internship
  • Interest in learning about the HR profession.
  • Interest in working at a non-profit.
  • Ability to research topics as assigned.
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn and become proficient in the use of other software.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion is a must.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of stakeholders from various backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Learn how to find federal and international laws and policies and apply them at the local level.
  2. Gain time management and project planning skills by working through multiple research and administrative projects simultaneously.
  3. Gain exposure to human resource information systems, applicant-tracking systems, and other common HR technologies.
