Position Summary
The Boarding School Nurse implements the school’s health services program and provides medical care and services to boarding students according to physician orders and using established school procedure, protocols and principles of the nursing process from assessment through evaluation. 
The Boarding School Nurse provides professional care to boarding students; collaborates with families, health care professionals, and the faculty, staff and administration in support of the boarding students’ wellbeing, in support of the overall school mission, and in accordance with applicable Florida law and Saint Andrew’s policies. 
The School Nurse position is a 10-month position that coincides with the academic calendar and includes the requirement to work two additional weeks beyond the academic calendar which will be determined by the Nurse Manager. 
This position requires the candidate to reside within a 10-15 mile radius of the school campus. 

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care to sick and injured boarding students
  • Provide medical care and services to students according to MD/NP/PA prescribed medical care and treatment orders
  • Implements medication administration guidelines 
  • Collects, maintains, and utilizes electronic student medical and immunization records and keeps accurate documentation 
  • Work schedule is 3 days a week (10-12 hrs/day) with on-call requirements to assist with boarding students needs after school hours
  • Arrange for boarding students to attend any outside medical, dental or other health appointments as necessary, follow up with providers, and follow treatment plans
  • Assess, evaluate, and implement in-patient care of boarding students admitted to the infirmary
  • Collaborate with the wellness team to schedule and teach health promotion throughout the school year 
  • Carry out adolescent medical surveillance programs
  • Carry out case management of ill or injured students
  • Operate procedures for control of infectious diseases
  • Follow procedures for the safe disposal of clinical waste
  • Be aware of and maintain the recommended safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs
  • Assist nurse manager in ordering, receiving, and maintaining inventory of health office and first aid supplies as needed
  • Work closely with the other members of Resident life faculty to ensure seamless and continuous health care of boarding students
  • Communicate with external school health advisors and other members of the primary health care team, mental health services where appropriate, outside health providers and pharmacy as appropriate
  • Be available for telephone consultation after school hours and possible onsite nursing infirmary visit during on call hours
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager

Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Florida, in good standing 
  • Current CPR, AED & First Aid for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) 
  • Significant related experience in emergency nursing, school nursing, or in an acute or primary care setting with pediatric or adolescent care preferred
  • School nurse certification preferred
  • Training and/or experience in treating childhood illnesses such as diabetes, allergy, asthma, and seizure disorders
  • Ability, judgment and professional training to interact and communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues
  • Ability to administer and maintain electronic student health records
  • Competency in computer skills and use of office equipment is a must 
  • Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills along with the ability to give clear instruction
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing
  • An understanding of a school infirmary operation and an appreciation for Saint Andrew’s mission
  • This position will require on-call coverage 4 days during the week to include 2 weekends a month 
  • On-call and weekend schedules rotate between the nursing staff.
