Employment Program Assistant, Refugee Resettlement

Position Type: Full-Time (37.5+ hours/week), Non-Exempt 
 
Work Setting: Onsite 
 
Reports To: Employment Program Manager 
 
Pay Rate: $20/hour

Position Overview:   
JFS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven individual to join the Refugee Resettlement team as the Employment Program Assistant. In this role, you have the opportunity to use your organizational skills and customer service experience to make a meaningful difference in your community and help change lives across San Diego. The Employment Program Assistant plays an integral role on the team and supports the entire agency assisting refugee clients in accessing employment services through four employment programs and resources within the Refugee Resettlement Department. This position reports directly to the Employment Program Manager and works closely with the Employment Team and the rest of the Refugee Resettlement Department. 
 
Responsibilities: 
Provide administrative and practical support for the Refugee Resettlement- Employment Services team with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism. Primary duties include (but are not limited to): 
  • Assist refugee clients in accessing services within the department  
  • Work closely with employment team to conduct outreach and create new employer partnerships  
  • Represent the department during employer partnership building, stakeholder meetings and external interactions 
  • Assist, coordinate and present workshops for refugee clients  
  • Provide one on one follow ups with program clients  
  • Data entry, including use of specialized database software 
  • Maintain detailed files and complete ongoing quality assurance reviews  
  • Basic accounting tasks, including overseeing monthly cash disbursements  
  • Other duties as assigned 
 
Skills/Abilities That are a Must-Have: 
  • High school, some college desired  
  • Strong computer skills including ability to learn and use specialty database software, proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook, familiarity with web-based applications including Google Docs, Group and Calendar 
  • Excellent written, telephone and oral communication skills  
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-stress situation 
  • Ability to work with people from, and within the context of, a variety of cultures in a respectful, culturally-sensitive manner 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 
  • Completion of all tasks with a high degree of accuracy and in a manner to meet deadline and compliance requirements 
 
Skills/Abilities We’d like you to Have: 
 
  • Two years related experience 
  • Fluency in a second language including Arabic, Farsi, Burmese, or Karen is helpful
