Clinical Research Assistant- Spinal Cord Injury

Palo Alto Veterans Institute for Research (PAVIR) supports the nation's second largest research program conducted among the VA Hospitals and is looking for a full-time Research Assistant who will support Principal Investigator, Dr. Jenny Kiratli.

This position will advance scientific research related to Spinal Cord Injury (SCI). The Research Assistant will follow qualitative methodology applied to SCI-related projects based on perspectives and approaches from the social sciences. Working closely with the principal investigator and research team, the Research Assistant will participate in collection and management of research findings with on-going quantitative investigations, as well as various activities related to enrollment, compliance, ongoing coordination, and review of medical information.

On-site but remote possible.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES OF A RESEARCH ASSISTANT
  • Participate in scheduling and conducting qualitative interviews under supervision of the PI;
  • Administer psychosocial surveys and check for completeness of responses;
  • Participate in data management and analysis following quantitative methodology;
  • Maintain study records, both hard copy and electronic;
  • Conduct secondary research and literature reviews; Contribute to drafts for publication and various reports;
  • Contribute to project management, ensuring that research requirements, protocols, schedules, and deliverables are met;
  • Perform study-related administrative and organizational tasks and other research activities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Required: Bachelor's degree or attaining bachelor's degree (expected graduation June 2023);
  • 0-1 years of experience in Research in a clinical or social/sociology setting;
  • Preferred: Degree in Social/Cultural/Medical Anthropology or relevant area (Sociology or Psychology or Social Work);
  • 1+ years of related experience in a health care setting; Experience working with individuals who identify as a sexual/gender minority is a plus;
  • 1+ years of related experience in a health care setting; Experience working with individuals who identify as a sexual/gender minority is a plus;
  • Knowledge in how to apply social science methods in a research setting;
  • High degree of creativity, productivity, and ability to work independently;
  • Ability to collaborate and work closely with multi-disciplinary teams and multisite organizations;
  • Capable of working independently;
  • Ability to interact professionally with clinical team members and research participants;
  • Strong verbal communication skills including personal interactions with members of diverse groups; competence in rapidly building rapport across diverse environments;
  • Strong writing skills including communication and ability to generate accurate and comprehensive reports;
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel.
