Defense Centers for Public Health - Blast Overpressure Exposure Assessment Research

As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers involved in enhancing the Defense Centers for Public Health - Aberdeen's (DCPH-A) Blast Overpressure Exposure Assessment Capability which includes performing health hazard-related assessments, modeling, and analyses while focusing on training and experience of collecting blast overpressure-related health hazard data.
What will I be doing and why should I apply?
DCPH-A is providing an opportunity for an Established Scientist to engage in two novel functionalities within the Health Hazard Assessment Division. The first is developing functionality to process contextual and raw health hazard exposure data into a standard format that could be ingested by the Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH). The second functionality is to process and standardize wearable blast gauge data. Both of these functionalities would significantly improve the efficiency and quality of Health Hazard Assessments and Joint Service member Occupational Health Assessments and allow for blast overpressure and impulse noise exposure data to be input into Service member medical records.
As the selected candidate, developing these functionalities provides experience in working with new systems and types of data, and the opportunity to be an integral part of improving and standardizing the processing, analysis, and storage of health hazard exposure data.
What is the anticipated start date?
Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate.
What is the appointment length?
This appointment is a twelve-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
What are the benefits?
You will receive a stipend to be determined by APHC. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:
  • Health Insurance Supplement (Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE)
  • Relocation Allowance
  • Training and Travel Allowance
