Community Volunteer Ambassador – National Park of American Samoa

Length:  Term of positions is 50 weeks; full-time 40 hrs/wk 
Location:  Pago Pago, American Samoa 
Compensation:  $565/week living allowance 
Start Date:  September 11, 2023

Position Title: Community Volunteer Ambassador 
 
Position Details: 
Stewards Individual Placements provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) Program combines the strength of a national leader in conservation service with the National Park Service to train a diverse group of emerging leaders to assist park units in building lasting connections to communities.  
 
The Community Volunteer Ambassador will be responsible for community outreach to share our mission and goals with the community.  They will connect with the local villages to identify needs that can be supported by the resources the park has to offer and develop volunteer programs to meet those needs. The CVA will also work with local schools to organize clean-ups for trash and marine debris to educate the villages on reducing single use plastic, how we handle our waste, and keeping our villages clean. 
 
Assist in current projects including Marine Debris Project and Mural Projects which both include volunteer aspects. 
 
Site Description: 
The National Park of American Samoa is a remote site in the middle of the South Pacific.  Our volunteer program is very new and we are currently working on improving volunteer opportunities. 
 
Position Responsibilities: 
  • Conducting community outreach and volunteer recruitment 
  • Leading volunteer projects 
  • Supporting educational programs 
  • Providing visitor information and services 
 
CVA Minimum Requirements: 
  • Reliable 
  • Punctual 
  • Hard working 
  • Friendly and able to connect with the community 
  • Speak Samoan and English 
  • Participate in the CVA National Early Service Training in early November 2023 
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident  
  • Be 18-30 years old at time of service (veterans up to 35 years old) 
  • Pass fingerprint-based FBI, state criminal, and a national sex offender checks.   
  • Be able to provide proof of a driver’s license and complete a MVR check 
  • Must be over 21 years old or have had license for at least 3 years to be insured in this position. 
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Speak fluent Samoan and English 
  • Effective communication skills 
  • Local applicants
