Career Pathways Navigator - African Immigrant Community Program at CAPI USA

CAPI’s mission is to guide refugees and immigrants in their journey toward self-determination. Key organizational values are rooted in equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Today, we are an inclusive, multi-lingual, and immigrant-led nonprofit serving new refugees and immigrants including Minnesota’s Asian, East and West African, and Latinx communities, as well as underserved US-born communities. Over 11,000 individuals are served annually across three core service areas Basic Needs, Economic Empowerment, and Civic Engagement/Public Policy.
The Career Pathways Navigator - African Immigrant Community Program position supports low-income African Immigrant and refugee community members to obtain credentialed/certificate training. This position will assist the community with direct job application assistance including training and non-training employment to meet their goals in finding great jobs in high demand fields.
 
WAGES AND BENEFITS: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour; employer-subsidized health insurance; generous employer contributions to a Health Savings Account for High Deductible enrollment; cost of premiums covered for Nice Healthcare for all employees; dental and vision insurance; participation in the agency-sponsored retirement plan with a 3% match; employer-paid life insurance; short- and long-term disability insurance; generous paid time off, plus 10 employer paid holidays and 1 floating holiday per year; and fully paid parental leave.
 
SCHEDULE: The majority of this position is conducted 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday; however, there may be some light evening and weekends. CAPI operates with a hybrid work schedule of 4 days per week in the office and 1 day work from home. New staff are expected to work 5 days per week in the office until they complete their initial training and receive approval from their supervisor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Pre-Enrollment & Enrollment
Manage pre-enrollment and enrollment activities to ensure clear expectations and appropriate program candidates.

Conduct community outreach regularly to promote the program.

Participate in CAPI’s community events/tabling.
Training and Employment Placement
Based on assessment and after securing all eligibility paperwork, works with each client to develop person-specific Individual Employment Plan (IEP) that outlines agreed upon goals and strategies that lead to job and training placement.

Refer participants to CAPI and external certificate and credential training programs.

Support participants to obtain employment including providing application assistance, training, connecting with employer partners, and providing job leads.

Provide job retention services.
Civic Engagement/Public Policy
Support CAPI’s agency-wide Civic Engagement and Public Policy values and initiatives and incorporate civic engagement and Public Policy into routine case management work.

Participate in voter registration and pledge drives, educational/outreach initiatives, GOTV activities and Public Policy initiatives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (Social Work, Business Management, Human Services, or related) or a 2-year related degree plus 3 years of demonstrably equivalent work experience; a combination of equivalent demonstrable experience and education may be considered.

Two years of related workforce development experience preferred; preferably serving the African Immigrant communities and low-income populations.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of various workforce development programs and local provider organizations.

Effective assessment and evaluation skills.

Bi-lingual in West African languages or Somali, Amharic, Oromo or French preferred.

Knowledge of the barriers participants encounter in searching for, obtaining, and retaining employment and training.

Ability to develop strong working relationships with diverse populations, diverse staff, employers, post- secondary institutions, ABE providers and others.

Effective communication skills - both verbally and in writing.

Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize, and meet deadlines.

Skilled in facilitating groups and trainings.
Licenses and Certifications:
 Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet CAPI’s driving record requirements. Please note that if the license was not issued in the state of Minnesota, you have 60 days after becoming a Minnesota resident in which to apply for your Minnesota driver's license or permit.
 
COVID protocols: CAPI USA requires employees to be vaccinated as a condition of employment, subject to reasonable accommodation required by law. All vaccination doses must have been received at least fourteen days prior to starting employment. CAPI recommends masking and social distancing, sanitizes common services regularly and is currently open by appointment for most services.
