Lifestyles Internship - Fall 2023

At GBH, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of one day each week: every Tuesday. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager. 

All employees who will be working on-site at any GBH facility and/or attending GBH events are required to be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccines as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) unless a request for an accommodation on medical or religious grounds has been requested and approved by GBH.

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Lifestyles Department is responsible for producing programs about cooking, travel, woodworking, gardening, health, music, and other subjects related to contemporary living for national distribution on PBS. Some of the series we produce and oversee include: Simply Ming, Moveable Feast, Weekends with Yankee, Lidia Celebrates America with celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich, among others.

JOB OVERVIEW
As an intern for Lifestyles, you will be directly involved in a variety of television production processes. You will have opportunities to participate in research for new project & recurring series proposals, assist in day-to-day administrative duties in a production unit, and work with experienced professionals in developing new national programs.

While the internship is generally administrative in nature, it offers students an opportunity to gain an understanding of the industry through hands-on experience and learn about developing program ideas from inception to final packaging and presentation.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Location & talent scouting, environmental scans, and general research.
  • Logging, transcribing, and archiving tape.
  • Delivering production materials and maintaining materials for the Executive and Associate Producers.
  • Assistance on field shoots; and assisting the department as needed.

SKILL SET
  • Familiarity with Mac computers
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office; Adobe Creative Cloud, IMDB Pro, and various tape formats are a plus
  • Previous experience in college-level production courses
  • Excellent organizational, research, writing, and general office skills
  • Strong communications skills and creative problem-solving skills

JOB-STATUS
Paid Internship $17/hour (Part-time)

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
GBH internships provide students with valuable work experience and real-world knowledge across many different fields of study, from TV and radio production to web design, accounting, law, and other administrative areas.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
  • Fall 2023 Virtual Internship dates: June 5tth through August 11th.
  • Candidates must have their own computer and access to Wi-Fi.
  • Candidates must be in an Undergrad or Grad program and have work authorization for the United States.
