Diagnostic Medical Physicist
Sentara Healthcare, headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, is searching for a Diagnostic Medical Physicist to join our growing Medical Physics team.
Currently, we have four Medical Physicists and one administrative support secretary. Our group provides Medical Physics services to all Sentara Healthcare facilities in Virginia and northern North Carolina. Our current team is in the Hampton Roads region while this position will be located in either Virginia Beach Or Charlottesville, VA.
The successful applicant must be a self-starter, board certified or working toward ABR parts II and/or III. Master’s degree or higher in Medical Physics from a CAMPEP accredited graduate program with a focus in Diagnostic Radiology is a requirement. The candidate must also meet the Virginia Department of Health requirements for a private inspector, North Carolina registration for Medical Physicists, FDA and/or State approved for mammography, and meet the ACR requirements for a qualified medical physicist for all accredited modalities. It is also desirable, but not required, that the candidate’s credentials qualify for the Associate Radiation Safety Officer hole per Virginia regulations. The successful candidate must have at least three (3) years of relevant clinical experience.
The physicist shall be enthusiastic and eager to contribute, as well as learn in a diverse healthcare environment. The successful applicant must have a wide range of exposure to all imaging modalities and a foundation of knowledge to build upon. Under the direction of the Regional Manager for Medical Physics and Radiation Safety, your areas of responsibility will include and are not limited to: State of Virginia and North Carolina annual inspections, ACR accreditation, policies and procedures implementation and reviews, dose optimization initiatives, share responsibilities in teaching of radiology residents and perform radiation safety duties, as needed. We seek professionals with strong communication and written skills, integrity, and a strong work ethic to be applied both independently and as a team player. Depending on the experience level, the candidate may have the opportunity to be assigned Associate Radiation Safety Officer duties.
