Prototype Integration Engineering Internship, Vehicle Software (Winter/Spring 2024)

What to Expect
Disclaimer: This position is expected to start around January or February 2024 and continue through the entire Spring term (i.e. through May 2024) or into Spring/Summer 2024 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and in-person, for most internships. Please consider before submitting an application.
 
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time depending on their academic standing.

About the Team
At the heart of Tesla is lighting-speed and bold innovation. Just like training for any sport or a neural net, iterations and speed of those iterations drastically affects performance and output. Your work will substantially affect Tesla’s ability to iterate on new and innovative hardware and continue to push us faster and further ahead in the electric vehicle frontier. 
 
In this internship you will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of hardware engineers, software engineers, technicians, and project managers to not only bring up completely new hardware, but to streamline and automate those processes using software.
 
You will develop your own software and contribute to existing systems to increase the speed with how quicky Tesla can integrate brand new, bleeding-edge hardware into the car computer system. You will identify issues with new hardware and the software controlling it and work both independently and with domain-expert engineers to solve those issues. Your work will directly and substantially impact the rate of innovation in Tesla’s car computing lab in Palo Alto, CA.


What You’ll Do
  • You will own the introduction and automation of new car computer hardware for engineering.
  • Meet bring-up deadlines of never-before-seen products.
  • Update existing automation software systems to support new hardware.
  • Learn and understand the Tesla car computer Linux operating system.
  • Create and own new software systems to provide Tesla teams with working products.
  • Support development and validation of factory critical software systems.
  • Develop relationships with SW/HW engineers, technicians and PMs to understand their needs.
  • Oversee the Tesla car computer prototype lab to streamline builds and bring-up.


What You’ll Bring
  • Pursuing a BS or MS in Computer Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Computer Science.
  • Experience with bash/shell and Linux.
  • Experience adding to an existing codebase with at least some formal programming language (python, golang, c/c++, etc).
  • Basic knowledge of git and using it with an existing codebase.
  • Low-level programing experience to interact with hardware.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Electrical debugging skills (using oscilloscope and multimeter).
