Community Advocate Intern
A New York City Councilmember’s district office seeks a passionate and motivated Community Advocate Intern. The ideal candidate should be passionate about uplifting the diverse community of Council District 46. The Councilmember is rooted in equity and accessibility for all. As a Community Advocate Intern, you will have a first person’s view into the hyperlocal dynamics of the community and build the skills necessary to organize and mobilize to address issues.
SALARY RANGE:
$15.00 to $20.00
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Along with the Chief of Staff, maintain a calendar of outreach activities and community engagement events, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other public facing engagement opportunities.
- Help to plan and execute community events and other community engagement activities.
- Assist with answering the phone, conducting intakes, and setting up appointments for constituents.
- Assist with providing constituent services and offer solutions for low level cases.
- Maintain a database of volunteers and constituents who visit the Office and attend events.
- Conduct community outreach to increase turnout for community engagement events.
- Individual opportunity to work on an issue you feel passionate about, it can be a deep dive on a legislative issue and/or organizing a community event that educates constituents or brings resources to the community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Passion for learning and working in a community setting.
- Familiar and willing to learn about street outreach, phone outreach and other targeted outreach tactics.
- Interested in learning about social services.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to commit to internship from August 21st, 2023, to December 22nd, 2023.
- Ability to work up to 19 hours per week; occasional evenings and weekends.
