Public Accounting Internships: January - April 2025

Spring 2025 internships are currently available within our Audit, Tax, Accounting Advisory, and Estate and Trust departments to bright enthusiastic students and graduates. Internships are paid, full-time experiences which run January – April. We recruit well in advance of this time frame to allow you flexibility and time to make arrangements for housing and required classes.
 
You will receive a comprehensive orientation with in-depth technology training. You will receive feedback meetings throughout your internship to ensure you are getting the feedback you need to be successful. Furthermore, you are paired with a supportive “Boulay Buddy” to help you acclimate to your position and help you meet people. Most importantly, you will have ample opportunities to gain practical public accounting experience, expand your professional network, and get in the pipeline for possible full-time opportunities! Below are the current internship opportunities:

Audit
As a member of our spring audit team, you will participate in all phases of business audits. You will meet with clients, plan audits, and assist with office wrap-up and report preparation. You will also get a chance to assist on special projects and conduct research on technical issues. This is a great way to learn from our audit staff and gain valuable Public Accounting audit experience. You will work with a variety of clients (within multiple industries) on engagements and your work would include but would not be limited to: 
  • Preparing financial statements including: auditing cash, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, PP&E and debt maturity schedules, along with income expense analysis etcetera
  • Assisting with budget forecasts
  • Working closely with in-charges and clients to obtain proper documentation for fieldwork
  • Being able to be involved in all phases of the audit process from preparation to issuance of reports
  • Assisting on special projects (i.e. due diligence or mergers and acquisitions)
  • Researching technical issues

Tax
If you are looking for hands-on experience in tax, this internship is for you! Our tax interns perform a variety of tax research and individual and corporate tax return preparation. There is also opportunity to respond to a variety of inquiries from Federal and State taxing authorities. Our tax staff provides an excellent mentor network for interns who desire to learn from the best. You will work with a variety of clients (within multiple industries) on their tax preparation and planning. Your work would include but would not be limited to:
  • Individual returns
  • Year-end planning
  • Corporate tax returns (both S and C Corp)
  • Opportunities to respond to a variety of inquiries from Federal and State taxing authorities
  • Tax research projects
  • Special projects as assigned
 
Tax (Estate & Trust focus)
This intern will work primarily with our Estate and Trust Team with additional exposure to general Tax. You will prepare gift and trust tax returns, perform trust accounting, prepare tax computations, identify, and research technical issues, and perform other tasks, as necessary. This is a wonderful opportunity to work in a high-demand area of tax. Your work would include but would not be limited to:
 
  • Various types of trust returns
  • Corporate (both S and C Corp) & Partnership tax returns
  • Gift Tax returns
  • Tax research projects
  • Special projects as assigned
 
Accounting Advisory
Are you looking to work with many family-owned or closely-held businesses? Then this internship is for you! Student interns in our Accounting Advisory department participate in helping our clients with their internal accounting needs. Interns learn the skills necessary for filing tax returns and performing compilations and reviews. Working directly with client issues means you will see business operations close-up. Your work would include but would not be limited to:
  • Compilation and review services
  • Tax planning and preparation
  • Bookkeeping (day-to-day, quarterly, and unique situations)
  • Forecasting and projections (simple projections to complex financial models)
  • Payroll preparation services

Minimum Requirements:
·       Minimum 3.0 GPA
·       Accounting Major working towards 150 credit hours
·       Completion of intermediate accounting course(s)
·       Completion of some Tax and/or Audit course(s) by time of internship
·       Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
·       Exemplary communication and organizational skills
·       Motivated to creatively serve clients
·       Desire to be a team player
