Intern Program:
The paid Summer Internship Program is an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a full-time BNSF employee. As an intern at BNSF, you’ll be given real-life, impactful assignments that will put your skills and education into practice. Your summer project will combine classroom experience and real-life business situations to provide value-added work to BNSF. The program is designed to identify students who will be hired by BNSF as full-time Management Trainees after they graduate. During your summer internship, you will get the chance to network with peers, our Business Resource Groups, and Senior Leaders throughout the BNSF network.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities involve providing leaders with performance data, recommendations on key metrics focused on improving productivity, and analysis of business performance. Duties include the design and development of performance reporting systems, effective and efficient analytical techniques, and application design on key metrics for rail operations. The position will play a key role in supporting BNSF and Network Strategy, Design, and Innovation Long-Term initiatives.
Provide analytical support to Network Strategy, Design, Innovation, and Transportation leaders on key operating topics including train, yard, and block volume changes; car velocity and utilization; terminal and train operational performance; and blocking integrity.
Perform and participate in analyses pertaining to transportation services
Build and structure presentations for internal and external distribution
Perform analysis in a timely manner and deliver clear communication of complex material

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primarily an office environment, with some field activities.
HOURS OF WORK:
Normal office hours, Monday through Friday, with weekend or evening work as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree or Graduate degree program in Data Science, Computer Science, or Management Information Systems, or a related degree
Cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher with a degree in Engineering or Construction Management OR a 2.75 or higher cumulative GPA with a non-engineering degree.
Must have a firm commitment to BNSF Safety Culture and willingness to work in a diverse and challenging environment.
Have less than four (4) years of work experience in a professional work environment. When calculating work experience, please EXCLUDE internships or positions held while in high school or college.
Strong technical and analytical skills
Ability to relocate to Fort Worth, TX for the summer
Valid Driver’s License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated ability to use a variety of software products and languages (SAS, Python, Tableau, Power BI, GIS, etc.) to prototype and develop various reports and analytical tools
Ability to write and understand structured query language (SQL)
Knowledge of machine learning or deep learning concepts and experience in the data preparation stage
Proven leadership experience and excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
