Summary
Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is seeking several Buyer / Procurement Interns for our Monroeville, PA location just a few miles from Pittsburgh, PA. These opportunities will begin Summer 2024 with students working full-time alongside our professionals learning how to manage global inventory ​and supply chain processes for the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP).  Please note, this is not a remote position. You will be expected to come into the office for this opportunity.

 

If you are a current Junior majoring in business or supply chain our internship program will give you the opportunity to work in your field of study. These opportunities can enhance your academic training while teaching critical business skills and allowing you to learn about BPMI, the Navy, and the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP).

 

The Buyer / Procurement Business Professional is responsible for performing contract functions which provide for budgeting, negotiation, placement, administration, and close out of standard and non-standard contracts in accordance with company policies, legal requirements, and Government specifications. The individual should possess the following attributes to complete the essential duties: questioning attitude, strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple competing priorities, complete work efforts in accordance with established schedules and team effectively with peers and management.

- Close Monitoring - You will be assigned a unique sponsor for the duration of your BPMI experience. Sponsors will provide guidance as you perform day-to-day efforts, while adding a more in-depth perspective or how the various assignments fit into the overall business. Along with your manager, a sponsor also provides general support and training on BPMI's business and operations.
- Training - You will be provided with learning opportunities across various logistics and supply chain functions such as inventory management, configuration control, and functional requirements development. You will utilize automated logistics systems and work with engineers, contract professionals, and budgeting personnel to ensure critical program components and repair parts are procured and delivered to schedule. You will work with programmers to design, develop, and implement new systems, or to improve existing systems. 
- Shipyard Tour - Our interns and co-ops typically visit Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia for a one-day shipyard tour. This unique and exciting opportunity allows you to see and potentially tour aircraft carriers, submarines, servicing facilities, and other areas of interest. You will gain a better appreciation of the important work BPMI does, and he key role the Navy plays in protecting the interest of the United States of America. 
 

Minimum Job Requirements:
- Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in business management/administration or equivalent education from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of four full semesters completed prior to your internship (~60 credits)
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for interns.
- Requires a security clearance, however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.
- Requires US Citizenship due to security clearance requirements.
 

 

Preferred Job Requirements:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications desired.
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Detail oriented self-starter 
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong teaming skills working with all levels of management, engineers, procurement professionals, supply chain professionals, onsite and remote Navy personnel
- Desire to improve, revise, and change logistics management processes for greater business performance.

Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is a project engineering organization supporting the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. BPMI provides design, manufacturing, and supply chain management of the fabrication, testing, delivery, installation, and field support of nuclear power plant components installed in submarines and aircraft carriers.
