Overview:
The Mississippi Management and Reporting System (MMRS) is an office of the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). MMRS is responsible for creating and maintaining a central repository of current, accurate, and relevant management information. In that effort, MMRS is responsible for the development, enhancement, maintenance, and support of several statewide applications that combine to form this central repository. The environment at MMRS is diverse and friendly. Our office includes over 100 employees and contractors that enjoy working together.

Area Opportunities:

  • Data Analytics
    • Participate on a project to build a data analytics team.
    • Conduct data analysis tasks, extracting insights from statewide systems data to support decision-making processes. 
    • Generate and present reports and dashboards showcasing key performance indicators and system metrics for stakeholders.
  • Finance Team Systems Analyst
    • Maintain organized and detailed documentation of existing processes, workflows, and system functionalities.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and document business requirements for system enhancements and optimizations.
    • Develop process flowcharts to visualize and optimize business processes within statewide systems.
    • Assist in the creation of training materials and provide support during user training sessions as needed.
  • Client Support
    • Assist state users with password resets and general security issues, troubleshooting for all state applications managed by MMRS.
    • Review security requests submitted by agencies.
    • Ensure quarterly acknowledgement forms for assigned agencies are received and stored appropriately.
    • Facilitate communication and collaboration with staff, state oversight entities, and system users to identify and resolve system problems. 
  • Project Management
    • Participate in statewide IT projects to implement new applications. 
    • Monitor project progress, tracking milestones and deliverables to maintain project timelines.
    • Communicate project updates, challenges, and successes to stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment with project goals.
  • Communications
    • Participate in event planning for statewide project communication and educational events for end users.
    • Write newsletters to send to external stakeholders and internal staff.
    • Draft emails to targeted user groups to disseminate pertinent information. 

Professional Development:
This internship will allow the participants to enhance their research, analytical, and solution conclusions skills. Interns will have the opportunity to learn how state government operates with the potential of networking with employees from different state agencies.

Required Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program, with a focus on business administration or related fields.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment.
