Summer Associate Internship (Internal Audit - Information Technology)

Internal Audit (IA) is Navy Federal’s Third Line of Defense, helping the organization accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk mitigation across the enterprise. IA employs a diverse range of professionals including certified auditors, subject matter experts who specialize in IT, finance, fraud, regulations, and data, as well as strategic personnel, all working collaboratively to ensure a seamless experience for Navy Federal and its members.

 

The NFCU IA Department seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated technology-focused intern to join the Internal Audit, Information Technology Audit Team for the Summer of 2024. The candidate should have an interest in learning about audit as it relates to enterprise IT Infrastructure, security evaluation, and risk assessment within the financial services industry. Using knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience, the intern will assist and participate in the audit planning, testing, and reporting of IT systems and processes that support various business units around the organization. In this 12-week summer internship program, the intern will have the opportunity to gain a strong understanding of the Internal Audit function, experience a variety of hands-on, impactful projects, and gain exposure to senior leaders.

 

The Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2024 and ending in August 2024. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2024 or later.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assist IT auditor in planning and executing IT audit engagements, analyzing and assessing Navy Federal's technological infrastructure to ensure processes and systems run accurately and efficiently while remaining secure and meeting compliance regulations
  • Support IT auditor to develop risk-based audit objectives, scopes, and test plans to ensure NFCU's IT systems and infrastructure are compliant with regulations, requirements, policies, and standards
  • Plan and execute audits of the organization’s IT systems in place to provide for confidentiality, availability, and integrity of systems and processes
  • Assisting with the creation of audit reports to accurately reflect audit findings
  • Review findings, conclusions, alternatives, and information to ensure information is presented clearly and concisely
  • Maintain the highest level of customer support through proactive identification and support of implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Communicate system and technical concerns to management and ensure current information is shared in a timely manner
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Stay abreast of industry best practices, requirements, and technology changes

 

Qualifications

 

  • Foundational knowledge of enterprise information technology, enterprise data, and cybersecurity concepts
  • Basic understanding of internal controls and enterprise risk mitigation concepts
  • Interest in analyzing technical issues and developing strategies to achieve objectives and/or requirements
  • Interest in learning IT Framework, risk management, security control interpretation, control assessments, standards, enterprise governance, and associated tools and applications

 

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM

Navy Federal is now hybrid! Our standard enterprise requirement for a hybrid schedule is to report onsite 4-16 days each month. The number of days reporting onsite will ultimately be determined by the employee's leadership and business unit needs. You will learn more throughout the hiring and onboarding process.
