Internship - Investment Actuary

Security Benefit a Kansas based company is seeking an Intern-Actuary. SBL fosters strong partnerships to provide insightful and customized retirement solutions for employers and individual investors nationwide.  As an industry leader in service technology, our affiliates offer business processing and broker/dealer solutions tailored to the financial services marketplace. Intern will work in our Topeka, Kansas Home Office.

The Intern will be exposed to many aspects of the company's activities, especially the day to day operations of the Investments Actuarial Team. Intern will primarily assist with  aspects of investment assumptions, ALM reporting and process automation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with updating and improving reports, spreadsheets and documentation
  • Assist the Senior Investment Actuary
  • Data validation, data flow automation and process documentation
  • Develop and utilize calculation tools in support of corporate models
  • Special projects as assigned

Eligibility:

Students eligible for the internship will be full-time students, available to work approximately 19 hours per week. Student will be expected to work during and in between semesters and up to 40 hours during the summer. This is not a summer only internship.

Qualifications:

  • College student pursuing degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance or Computer Science at the junior to graduate level
  • Commitment to pursue an actuarial credential demonstrated by preparation for Society of Actuaries-administered exams or exam credit
  • Advanced Excel knowledge/skill required including functions and macro creation, editing and use
  • Experience with modern programming languages preferred
  • Exposure to fixed income asset types including modern securitization methods
  • Strong GPA in all areas of study
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines required
  • Accuracy and the ability to be very detail oriented are crucial
  • Demonstrates initiative and able to work independently
  • Ability to interact professionally with all contacts
