PART TIME NURSE

 

Job Category:                Part Time, Temporary

Compensation:             $30.00 per hour

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:   To provide first aid care for campers and staff, work closely with lead nurse and provide direct supervision of Healthcare Associate(s) (HCA) while overseeing the administration of medications to campers and staff, monitoring health and cleanliness standards and organizing paperwork. Work with the Recreational Programs Manager and Program staff, to help provide adequate physical health conditions for all, provide health education to staff and campers, and assist Program Support staff with personal hygiene needs and special procedures for campers as necessary. Weekend and summer shifts.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Uphold program policies and regulations and follow program procedures.
  2. Care of all sick or injured campers and staff.
  3. Implement changes in procedures recommended by the WFI Medical Director.
  4. Must be knowledgeable of current emergency procedures and interventions.
  5. Make recommendation, in consultation with program coordinators regarding having camper or personnel see a physician or visit the hospital.
  6. Assist in maintaining health standards throughout camp as specified by the ACA and Health department.
  7. Oversee HCA administration of medications and confirm proper documentation of all administered medications. Responsible for medications to be under double lock and key stored in the Healthcare Medication Carts.
  8. Keep daily records of all camper/staff treatments in accordance with ACA standards.
  9. Conduct screening interview with parents/guardians of campers on opening day of each session.  Inquire about special health problems, skin issues and formulate a plan of care for each camper.
  10. Be available to administer medical aid whenever needed.  Oversee and assist with bowel and bladder program for campers.
  11. Consult with the Program Coordinator on dietary requirements of campers and staff and report all medical concerns.
  12. At the conclusion of camp sessions, return all medications to parents/guardians and give a verbal report to parents/guardians concerning any pertinent medical issues.
  13. Properly dispose of and oversee proper disposal of all medical equipment. Sharps containers for needle disposal will be kept in the health center. Biohazard bags for dressings or materials used to soak up infectious waste will be stored in the health center. 
  14. Camp nurse may provide staff training to identify roles and responsibilities in camp health care, prepare staff to use health care supplies and equipment, identify those situations which should only be attended to by health personnel, and establish sanitary procedures when dealing with infectious waste or body fluids. Staff training may also include training in care for orthodontic, orthopedic, and prosthetic devices; repertory devices, persons in wheelchairs; and persons with incontinence or homesickness. Staff training will include universal precautions, the use of barriers, hand washing, sanitizing procedures, and appropriate waste disposal, maintaining healthy intact skin, conduct CPR/AED and First Aid training, personal hygiene care, and bowl and bladder care, medication distribution/double reconciliation.
  15. Nurses will check all medications by verifying medication labels with medications.  Nurses are responsible for completing each individual camper’s medication documentation sheet and secure appropriate parent/guardian signatures.

  7. Encourage and foster appropriate relationships between participants.
  8. Engage participants in planned program activities.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:          RN (Registered Nurse) or LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) status

                             Flexibility in scheduling

                             Act 33/34 clearance and Act 73, FBI clearance

Experience and interest in working with children/adults with disabilities.

Experience and ability to provide invasive personal care.

***Please note this is part-time, contract employment that takes place on weekends (Friday evenings, Saturday daytime/evening). Part-time nurses are able to indicate what weekends or day shifts they are available to work.
