Job Purpose 

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a CNC Machinist Intern at our Noblesville Technical Center (NTC) in Noblesville, Indiana. 

 

CNC Machinist Intern will help support the Quality Team in our prototype area, in which electric rotating products and processes technology are developed.  This role will assist in the development of product/process control documentation, process capability/validation, process-to-product correlation, and verification of measurement methods. 

Key Responsibilities 

Machine parts under minimal supervision 

Program CNC equipment via hand or conversational programming 

Good knowledge of shop tools and machines 

Safely operate overhead crane 

Complete understanding of reading blueprints and drawings 

Maintain a clean and safe work area   

Strong understanding and experience with close tolerance machining and using precise measuring tools 

What We’re Looking For 

Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or be a graduate from an accredited college 

GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or B average, upon initial hire date 

Formal training and/or experience programming 5-axis CNC, creating tooling, fixtures and manufacturing processes to manufacture components. 

Strong understanding of machining factors such as speed, feed, selection of tooling 

Ability to read and use calipers, micrometers, gauges and other measuring instruments used to perform the job 

Decide the sequence in which machine operations must be carried out and the amount of material to be removed in each step 

Must be self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision 

Professional business mindset, able to collaborate with other departments and clients regarding specifications. 

Formal training and/or experience in G and M code 

Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes and grinders 

Knowledge of cutting tools and standard machining practices 

A trade school certification (in-process or completed) is strongly desired 

Read and understand engineering drawings and blueprints, including Geometric Dimensioning, conventional dimensioning/tolerance, as well as the ability to infer tolerances for a given part function 

Apply thorough knowledge of machining materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, plastics, tool steel 

Be capable of making parts from start to finish using blueprints and/or customer supplied CAD files with little supervision 

Travel is <5% and limited to ongoing training at local vendor location.
