Wetland Scientist

Job Title:   Wetland Scientist

 

Scope 

The responsibilities of the position will include project management, fieldwork for wetland delineation and stream surveys, GIS mapping, and report writing. Candidates with practical experience in consulting and environmental regulations in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and/or West Virginia are highly encouraged to apply. Please provide 3-5 professional references. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred). Relevant educational experience may include Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, and forestry related field.
  • 5+ years of experience performing biological field evaluations for regulated wetland and stream resources (in environmental consulting setting preferred).
  • Knowledge and understanding of USACE and State agency permitting process and plan development, as well as a general understanding of restoration practices.
  • Regulatory agency’s coordination experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current field survey standards for wetland and stream evaluations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Must be self-driven and able to perform work independently with limited supervision.
  • Willing to travel, physically capable to hike 3 to 5 miles in rough terrain with field gear.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

 

Desired Qualifications

Wetland permitting and other ecological permit package plan development experience for USACE, USFWS, etc.

  • Completed a 40-Hour Basic Wetland Delineation Course, and have a working understanding and knowledge of the ORAM, QHEI, and HHEI aquatic resource field evaluation form.
  • Understanding of Threatened and Endangered Species as well as other general wildlife survey techniques.
  • Prequalification with the ODOT and working knowledge of Ecological Level 1 & 2 Survey of transportation projects and DOT procedures is a plus.
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) is a plus
  • General GIS skills (general map making, data sourcing, geodatabase management, editing and managing shapefiles) / CAD
  • Plant and rare species survey experience (in Ohio is a plus).
  • Strong writing and reporting skills.
