Alpha Technologies Network Engineer

Job Title:                                    Network Engineer

Reports To:                               Chief Operating Officer

 

JOB PURPOSE: 

Analyzes network requirements and completes network designs to satisfy requirements, manages complex customer network projects and directs the configuration, installation, and documentation of completed network environments.   Provides high level support to service personnel to assist in the resolution of customer network issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Accountable for management of all technical aspects of assigned network projects
  • Leads projects as assigned, including supervision of a diverse numbers of functions and employees which are essential to the project
  • Develop detailed implementation documents and acceptance/test documentation for all assigned  technical phases of the project
  • Create and maintain resource budgets for assigned projects 
  • Manage personnel assigned to the project to ensure successful completion of the project and provide regular progress reports to the project coordinator
  • Provide critical decisions during the project lifecycle to ensure project profitability
  • Develop, propose, document, and maintain design standards in cooperation with teammates and company leadership
  • Design, setup, modify and configure complex network environments
  • Design, setup, modify and configure complex switching environments
  • Design, setup, modify and configure complex wireless network environments
  • Design, setup, modify and configure complex firewall and security components
  • Design, setup, modify and configure virtual private network (VPN) environments
  • Design, setup, modify and configure complex VoIP phone systems and devices
  • Provide support to internal and external resources as required
  • Document all phases of projects and service requests
  • Comply with the requirements of applicable certifications, legal and regulatory requirements, standards, and the Information Security Management System

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of core network technologies including, but not limited to, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP,  routing, switching, network security
  • Complete detailed and accurate time entries in our PSA software on a timely basis
  • Pursue continued education and certifications, as guided by management

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Education:       

  • High school diploma or GED required. 
  • 5+ years of related work experience. 
  • Related industry certifications are desired (examples:  CCNA, CCNP, CCVP, CCIE)

Experience Requirements:      

  • Cisco Routers and Switches, Cisco IOS, Cisco Firewalls
  • VoIP and VoIP business telephone systems
  • 802.11 Wireless networking
  • Virtual Private Networks
  • IP routing protocols including EIGRP, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP
  • Experience managing technical projects a plus

Motor vehicle record check(s) required for company vehicle. Must pass back ground check and drug screening.
